Abstract: The use of hydrophilically-modified polyisocyanates (I) as crosslinkers for binders used in aq. pigment dye baths for dyeing textiles is claimed. Also claimed is a process for dyeing textiles in aq. pigment dye baths using (I) as crosslinker for the binder. Also claimed are aq. dye baths for the above process, contg. 0.01-10 wt.% (I) in addn. to pigments, binders, water and conventional additives.

Abstract: A process for the preparation of etherified or non-etherified aminoplast resins, wherein an aminotriazine of the general formula (I) (I) where X is hydrogen, alkyl, phenyl, alkylphenyl or -NH2, is reacted with a beta -hydroxyaldehyde of the general formula (II) (II) where R', R'' and R''' are identical or different and each is hydrogen or alkyl, or R'' and R''', together with the alpha -carbon atom, are a cyclopentane or cyclohexane ring, and R'' and/or R''' can be hydroxyalkyl and R'' can be phenyl, the reaction being carried out in the presence of not less than one alcohol and an acid catalyst for the preparation of etherified aminoplast resins and in the presence or absence of an acid catalyst for the preparation of non-etherified aminoplast resins. The aminoplast resins prepared according to the invention can be used as surface-coatings raw materials.

Abstract: Use is claimed of alpha , beta -ethylenically unsaturated carboxylic acids in reducing the residual monomer content in aqueous radical emulsion polymerisation of mixtures comprising (A) 4-8C diene(s); (B) nitrile(s) of alpha , beta -ethylenically unsaturated carboxylic acids; (C) amide(s) and/or N-methylolamide(s) of alpha , beta -ethylenically unsaturated 3-6C mono- or 4-6C di-carboxylic acids; and optionally also (D) comonomers comprising vinyl aromatics, esters of alpha , beta -ethylenically 3-6C mono- or 4-6C di-carboxylic acids with 1-12C alkanols and/or esters of vinyl alcohol with 1-20C monocarboxylic acids. The unsaturated acid is added in an amount of 0.05-2.5 (especially 0.2-1)wt.% based on monomers (A) - (D) before or during the polymerisation or before an optional post-polymerisation. Aqueous polymer dispersions thus obtained are claimed, as is also their use in impregnating textiles, leather or (especially) fleeces.

Abstract: An aqueous formulation comprises a polymer constructed of from 0 to 99.95% by weight of one or more principal monomers I selected from C 1 -C 20 -alkyl (meth)acrylates, aromatic vinyl compounds having up to 20 carbon atoms, vinyl esters of carboxylic acids containing up to 20 carbon atoms, ethylenically unsaturated nitriles, vinyl ethers of alcohols containing from 1 to 10 carbon atoms and aliphatic hydrocarbons having from 2 to 8 carbon atoms and 1 or 2 double bonds, from 0.05 to 100% by weight of one or more monomers II which carry at least one functional group, which is not to be understood as meaning an ethylenically unsaturated group, this functional group being reactive with the below-defined phosphorus compound in such a way that the phosphorus compound becomes thereby bonded to the polymer, and from 0 to 80% by weight of one or more further monomers III which differ from monomers I and II, and a phosphorus compound which is reactive with the functional group of monomer II, the phosphorus compound being or becoming bonded to the polymer via the functional group. The formulation can be used for consolidating fibrous materials, in particular fibrous webs, or in coatings, impregnants, cleaning or care agents or adhesives to provide flame proofing.
