Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To more improve various performance characteristics of a thermoplastic binder, particularly the strength of a molded product produced therefrom as compared with that of the conventional corresponding products thereof. SOLUTION: A method for producing a polymer aqueous dispersion is provided. The polymer aqueous dispersion comprises an emulsion polymer, a polymer composed of at least 5 mass% of an ethylenically unsaturated monocarboxylic acid, dicarboxylic acid or dicarboxylic acid anhydride (abbreviated to an acid polymer SP) and an alkoxysilane represented by the formula SiR R R R [wherein, groups R to R denote each mutually independently an organic group and at least one of the groups denotes an alkoxy group]. The method for production is characterized by producing the emulsion polymer in the presence of at least a small amount of the alkoxysilane by an emulsion polymerization.

Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a new mesoporous silica having respectively specific surface area and volume of the mesopores and useful as a molded article, a catalyst or a catalyst carrier by converting a silica precursor in a water-containing reaction medium containing a polymer dispersion liquid. SOLUTION: The mesopore of this mesoporous silica has a specific surface area of >=500m /g and a volume of >=1.0mL/g. The maximum size of the pare diameter distribution of the mesopore is preferably >=3nm. The obtained silica is preferably baked. The polymer dispersion liquid is preferably a cationic aqueous polymer dispersion liquid stabilized with a cationic emulsifier and/or a cationic comonomer (emulsifying agent or α,β-ethylenic unsaturated monomer having quaternary amine or ammonium structure). These emulsified polymers can be produced preferably by using a free-radical polymerization initiator having a cationic group.

Abstract: The invention relates to the application of microcapsules I with one or more lipophilic substances as core material. Said lipophilic substances have a solid/liquid phase transition at a temperature ranging from -20 to 120 DEG C and a polymer which is used as a shell and can be obtained by means of radical polymerization of a monomer mixture containing 30 to 100 wt.%, referring to the total weight of the monomers, one or more C1-C24-alkyl esters of the acrylic acid and/or methylacrylic acid (monomer I), 0 to 80 wt.%, referring to the total weight of the monomers, one bi- or polyfuntional monomer (monomer II) which is insoluble or poorly soluble in water, and 0 to 40 wt.%, referring to the total weight of the monomers, and other monomers (monomer III). The microcapsules can be used as latent heat accumulators. The invention also relates to novel microcapsules Ia, spray-dried microcapsules Ia', methods for the production thereof, and to shaped bodies and coating masses containing said microcapsules.

Also claimed are (i) polymer dispersions (PD) as above; (ii) moulded prods. based on materials (M) and binders (PD); (iii) rectangular moulded sheets based on (M) and (PD), with a length and breadth of 30-70 cm and a thickness of 1-20 mm; (iv) a process for the prodn. of mouldings (ii), by suspending material (M) in water, adding dispersion (PD), precipitating copolymer (A) onto material (M) by adding bases or salts of multivalent anions, placing the mixt. obtd. in a mould, removing water, and drying; (v) moulded prods. obtd. by this process.

Abstract: A thermally curable, aqueous composition (I), useful as a binding agent (II) for moulded articles (III) comprises (A) a polymer, prepared by radical polymerisation and containing no more than 5 wt.% of a polymerised alpha , beta -ethylenically unsaturated mono- or dicarboxylic acid; (B) a polymer, prepared by radical polymerisation and containing at least 15 wt.% of a polymerised alpha , beta -ethylenically unsaturated mono- or dicarboxylic acid; and (C) an alcoholamine containing at least 2 hydroxy groups. The binding agent (II) contains (I). An Independent claim is included for moulded articles (III) prepared by impregnation of a substrate by (I) and (II) followed by curing of the impregnated substrate.
