    Abstract: The invention relates to a method for producing an aqueous styrene-butadiene polymer dispersion by the radical aqueous emulsion-polymerisation of a monom er mixture M, containing: between 40 and 80 wt. % styrene as monomer M1; betwee n 20 and 60 wt. % butadiene as monomer M2 and between 0 and 40 wt. %, (in relation to l00 wt. % monomers), of ethylenically unsaturated comonomers M3 that differ from styrene and butadiene, according to a monomer feed process in the presence of between 0.05 and 0.5 wt. %, (in relation to l00 wt. % monomers), of at least one hydrocarbon KW comprising between 6 and 20 C atom s, selected from compounds, which form a pentadienyl or a 1-phenylallyl radical during the abstraction of a hydrogen atom, or from .alpha.-methylstyrene dimers. Said method is characterised in that at least 30 % of the hydrocarbo n KW is already present in the polymerisation vessel and the residual quantity of the hydrocarbon KW is fed to the polymerisation reaction during the cours e of the latter.

    Abstract: The invention relates to a method for producing an aqueous styrene-butadiene polymer dispersion by carrying out a radical aqueous emulsion polymerization of a monomer mixture M containing: 40 to 80 wt. % of styrene depicted as Monomer M1; 20 to 60 wt. % of butadiene depicted as monomer M2, and; 0 to 40 wt. %, with regard to 100 wt. % of the monomers, of ethylenically unsaturate d comonomers M3 that differ from styrene and butadiene. The polymerization is carried out according to a monomer feeding method in the presence of 0.05 to 0.5 wt. %, with regard to 100 wt. % of the monomers, of at least one hydrocarbon KW selected among compounds having 6 to 20 C atoms that form a pentadienyl radical or a 1-phenylallyl radical when a hydrogen atom is abstracted, and the .alpha.-methylstyrene dimer. The inventive method is characterized in that the monomers to be polymerized are introduced within three hours of the polymerization reaction.

    Abstract: The invention relates to a method for on-line monitoring and controlling the monomer conversion during emulsion polymerization. According to said method, a balance is continuously made, starting from an initialization point in time, of the heat amount Q?IN? fed to a reaction, the reaction enthalpy Q?RE? added by the supply with monomers and the amount of heat Q?OUT? dissipated from the reactor. A non-dissipated amount of heat Q?AD? is calculated on the basis of these values which in the case of a spontaneous adiabatic reaction would result in an increase in the internal temperature and the internal pressure of the reactor. A check is carried out whether the potential adiabatic temperatures and pressures are always within the predetermined upper limits. If said upper limits are exceeded, the addition of monomers to the reactor is slowed down or stopped.
