Abstract: Binder preparation with a minimum film-forming temperature below 10 degrees C, based on a dispersion containing anionic and non-ionic emulsifiers and a copolymer of 20-50 wt% vinyl-aromatic monomer, 45-70 wt% 1-18C alkyl acrylate or 5-18C alkyl methacrylate which forms a homopolymer with a Tg below 10 degrees C, 2-4 wt% methacrylic acid and optionally other comonomers. A binder preparation with a minimum film-forming temperature (MFT) below 10 degrees C, based on a binder polymer (P) in the form of an aqueous dispersion containing anionic emulsifier(s) and non-ionic emulsifier(s), in which (P) is a copolymer of (A1) 20-50 wt% vinyl-aromatic monomer(s), (A2) 0-15 wt% 1-4C alkyl (meth)acrylate(s), (A3) 0-30 wt% (meth)acrylonitrile, (B) 45-70 wt% monomer(s) which form a homopolymer with a glass transition point (Tg) below 10 degrees C, selected from 1-18C alkyl acrylates and 5-18C alkyl methacrylates, (C) 2-4 wt% methacrylic acid, (D) 0-3 wt% monomer(s) selected from amides, 1-4C hydroxyalkyl esters and 1-4C alkyl-polyalkyleneoxide-esters of 3-6C mono-unsaturated monocarboxylic acids and (E) 0-5 wt% other monomer(s), where the total amount of monomers (A1)-(A3) does not exceed 55 wt% of the total monomer content and the content of (A2) is at least 5 wt% if the content of (A3) is less than 0.5 wt%. An Independent claim is also included for emulsion paint containing binder preparation(s) as described.

Abstract: Aqueous low-emulsifier dispersions of emulsion copolymers which contain, as copolymerized units, (a) from 35 to 55% by weight of butadiene, (b) from 35 to 60% by weight of styrene, (c) from 1 to 3% by weight of alpha , beta -monoolefinically unsaturated monocarboxylic acids and/or dicarboxylic acids of 3 to 6 carbon atoms, (d) from 1 to 3% by weight of amides of alpha , beta -monoolefinically unsaturated monocarboxylic acids and/or dicarboxylic acids of 3 to 5 carbon atoms, (e) from 1 to 4% by weight of N-methylolamides of alpha , beta -monoolefinically unsaturated monocarboxylic acids and/or dicarboxylic acids of 3 to 5 carbon atoms, or their alkyl ethers, and (f) from 1 to 3% by weight of acrylic acid and/or methacrylic acid monoesters of alkanediols of 2 to 6 carbon atoms, the emulsion containing, as emulsifier, from 0.1 to 0.8% by weight, based on emulsion copolymers, of fatty alcohol-sulfonates and/or alkylbenzenesulfonates, where alkyl is of 12 to 16 carbon atoms, are of particular value as binders for aqueous anti-corrosion paints.

Abstract: 1. A binder for building adhesives, troweling mixes and plasters which is based on a halogen-free emulsion copolymer of monoolefinically unsaturated carboxylates, wherein the emulsion copolymer comprises (a) from 55 to 72 % by weight of vinyl propionate, (b) from 44,9 to 27,5 % by weight of tert.-butyl acrylate, (c) from 0.1 to 0.5 % by weight of acrylic acid or methacrylic acid, and (d) from 0 to 17.5 % by weight of a monoolefinically unsaturated carboxylate from the group comprising vinyl acetate, methyl acrylate and methacrylate, n- and isobutyl acrylate and methacrylate and dibutyl maleate, the percentages being based on the total amount of the monomers.
