Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a binder formulation based on an aqueous polymer dispersion which assures uniform film formation without addition of a coalescing agent and forms a coating film of low adhesion and high blocking resistance. SOLUTION: The binder formulation has a minimum film-forming temperature of 10 deg.C or less, contains at least one anionic emulsifying agent and at least one nonionic emulsifying agent, and further contains at least one binder polymer in the form of an aqueous dispersion, the binder polymer comprising monomers of A1, A2, A3, B, C, D and E, where the monomer A1 is a vinyl aromatic monomer, A2 is a 1-4C methacrylate, A3 is acrylnitrile or methacrylonitrile, the monomer B is one kind selected from 1-18C alkyl acrylate and 5-18C alkyl methacrylates, C is methacrylic acid, D is one kind selected from 3-6C monoethylenically unsaturated monocarboxylic amides and 1-4C hydroxyalkyl esters and E is ethylene glycole diacrylate, or the like.

Abstract: Binder preparation with a minimum film-forming temperature below 10 degrees C, based on a dispersion containing anionic and non-ionic emulsifiers and a copolymer of 20-50 wt% vinyl-aromatic monomer, 45-70 wt% 1-18C alkyl acrylate or 5-18C alkyl methacrylate which forms a homopolymer with a Tg below 10 degrees C, 2-4 wt% methacrylic acid and optionally other comonomers. A binder preparation with a minimum film-forming temperature (MFT) below 10 degrees C, based on a binder polymer (P) in the form of an aqueous dispersion containing anionic emulsifier(s) and non-ionic emulsifier(s), in which (P) is a copolymer of (A1) 20-50 wt% vinyl-aromatic monomer(s), (A2) 0-15 wt% 1-4C alkyl (meth)acrylate(s), (A3) 0-30 wt% (meth)acrylonitrile, (B) 45-70 wt% monomer(s) which form a homopolymer with a glass transition point (Tg) below 10 degrees C, selected from 1-18C alkyl acrylates and 5-18C alkyl methacrylates, (C) 2-4 wt% methacrylic acid, (D) 0-3 wt% monomer(s) selected from amides, 1-4C hydroxyalkyl esters and 1-4C alkyl-polyalkyleneoxide-esters of 3-6C mono-unsaturated monocarboxylic acids and (E) 0-5 wt% other monomer(s), where the total amount of monomers (A1)-(A3) does not exceed 55 wt% of the total monomer content and the content of (A2) is at least 5 wt% if the content of (A3) is less than 0.5 wt%. An Independent claim is also included for emulsion paint containing binder preparation(s) as described.

Abstract: Polymer (I) derived from the following monomer mixture (wt.%) is new: (A) a monomer whose homopolymer has a glass transition temperature (Tg) below 30 degrees C (45-74.9); (B) a monomer whose Tg is above 50 degrees C (25-54.9); (C) a crosslinking monomer having at least two nonconjugated vinyl groups (0.001-0.1); (D) a monomer containing acid groups (0-4); and (E) other monomer(s) (0-2). Independent claims are also included for the following: (1) a coating composition containing a binder comprising (I) produced by radical-initiated aqueous emulsion polymerization; and (2) an aqueous polymer dispersion comprising (I).

Abstract: The invention relates to a method for improving characteristics for technical application of aqueous polymeric dispersions containing hydrosoluble ionic compounds consisting which is characterised in that at least 50 mol % of the hydrosoluble ionic compounds are removed from said polymeric dispersion and, afterwards at least one type of mono or dialkyl ester salt is added to a sulfonated dicarboxylic acid.
