    Abstract: Acrylonitrile (or methacrylonitrile) from propylene (or isobutylene) is made by ammoxidation at elevated temperature using supported catalysts containing MoO3 and SuO2 and optionally BrO3, the catalyst having been prepared by impregnating the carrier with a solution of the metal oxides on the corresponding sulphates in conc. H2SO4, followed by drying. Examples describe the passage of gaseous mixtures of olefine + oxygen + ammonia + nitrogen and/or steam over suitably prepared catalysts at 480-500 DEG C.ALSO:Catalysts of MoO3, SuO2 \sB B2O3 on a carrier are made by impregnation using solutions of oxides or sulphates in concentrated H2So4. Preferred carrier is SiO2, but Al2O3, SiC, diatomaceous earth and pumice are also mentioned. Particle sizes and bulk density data are given.

    Abstract: Tertiary alkyl acrylates or methacrylates of the formula wherein R1 denotes an H atom or the -CH3 group and the R2 radicals which may be the same or different denote an alkyl group having from 1 to 4 C atoms, are prepared by reacting acrylic or methacrylic acid with a tertiary olefin of formula where R2 has the above meaning and R3 denotes an alkylidene group with 1 to 4 C atoms, in the presence of an active bleaching earth containing from 0.005 to 0.1 milliequivalents per gram of free titratable acid at atmospheric or superatmospheric pressure and at a temperature of from 0 DEG C. to 40 DEG C. A suitable bleaching earth comprises 50 to 70% of SiO2, 10 to 30% of Al2O3, 2 to 8% of Fe2O3, 1 to 9% of MgO and small amounts of the oxides of the other alkaline earth metals (all percentages are by weight). Examples describe the production of tertiary-butyl acrylate.

    Abstract: Dehydrogenation of volatile 2-20C organic cpds in the presence of halogen (source) and O2 at 400-800 degrees C, in which most of the reactants are introduced through nozzles at is not 5 m/s into (consecutive) mixing zone(s) along the reactor, is carried out in a reactor with the dia. of the first mixing zone 2-100 times the nozzle dia. and length 3-30 times its dia. the mixing zone being at the lower end (in the flow direction) of a circulation tube with dia. 0.1-0.95 times the inside dia of the reaction zone, as in DT 2144148. The reaction gases leaving the reaction zone are allowed to react to completion in an after-reactor contg. a fixed catalyst. This process is suitable for dehydrogenation of such cpds. as methyl isobutyrate to methyl methacrylate in high yield (78%) and conversion (41%) and also ethylbenzene and cumene. A MgSiO3/Co3O4 catalyst is pref.
