Abstract: UV-crosslinkable materials based on (meth)acrylate copolymers contain copolymerized monomers of the general formula I (I) where R is a certain alkyl radical, an aryl radical or a radical R1 and R1 is a radical where R2 to R6 are each H, alkyl, a non-ortho OH group, OCH3, OC2H3, SH, SCH3, Cl, F, CN, COOH, COO(C1-C3-alkyl), CF3, N(CH3)2, N(C2H5)2, N(CH3)C6H5, +N(CH3)3X- or +N(CH3)XX-, where X- is an acid anion, and one or more of the radicals R2 to R6 are each a radical or or where Sp is one of the spacer groups of the following type and R', R'' and R''' are each H or a certain hydrocarbon, and where the radicals X may be identical or different and are each a divalent, alkylene radical, a cycloalkylene radical or phenylene radical, which are bonded directly to one another and/or are bonded to one another by identical or different groups Y, and Y is a divalent radical from the group consisting of and k and m are each from 1 to 10 and 1 and n are each from 0 to 25.

Abstract: Compositions which can be crosslinked under an atmospheric oxygen atmosphere by means of ultraviolet irradiation and are based on (meth)acrylate copolymers having a K value of from 10 to 100, obtained by free-radical polymerisation in solid phase or solution of a) 5 to 97.4% by weight of i-amyl acrylate and/or i-amyl methacrylate and b) 0 to 89.9% by weight of (meth)acrylates whose hompolymers have a glass transition temperature of below -30 DEG C, c) 2.5 to 30% by weight of alpha , beta -monoolefinically unsaturated compounds whose homopolymers have a glass transition temperature of above - 30 DEG C, d) 0 to 10% by weight of monoolefinically unsaturated acids and/or anhydrides thereof, e) 0 to 20% by weight of further olefinically unsaturated monomers containing at least one of the following functional groups: hydroxyl, amide, epoxide, ether, ester, urethane, urea, primary, secondary or tertiary amine and ether, and f) 0.1 to 5% by weight of a copolymerisable benzophenone or acetophenone derivative, the sum of the percentages by weight x = a + b + c + d + f in each case being 100.

Abstract: Paper and paperboard of high dry strength are produced by adding a dry strength enhancer to the paper stock and dewatering the paper stock with sheet formation by using as the dry strength enhancer a mixture of a cationic polymer which contains as characteristic monomers copolymerized units of (a) diallyldimethylammonium chloride, (b) N-vinylamine or (c) a substituted or unsubstituted N-vinylimidazoline and has a K value of not less than 30, and natural potato starch which is converted into a water-soluble form by heating in an aqueous medium at above the gelatinization temperature of natural potato starch in the absence of any oxidizing agents or alkali.

Abstract: Aqueous synthetic resin formulations containing A) from 3 to 75% by weight of one or more synthetic resins, B) one or more organic compounds having two or more hydrazide groups, C) from 0 to 10% by weight, based on the synthetic resin A, of benzophenone or acetophenone or of one or more acetophenone or benzophenone derivatives which are not monoethylenically unsaturated or of a mixture of these active ingredients, D) effective amounts of emulsifiers or protective colloids or of a mixture of these active ingredients, E) not less than 5% by weight of water and F) from 0 to 85% by weight of finely divided fillers, with the proviso that the total amount of the monomers d polymerized in the one or more synthetic resins A and of component C is from 0.05 to 10% by weight, based on the one or more synthetic resins A, and the ratio of the number of moles of hydrazide groups of component B and the number of moles of the aldehyde and keto groups of the monomers c polymerized in the one or more synthetic resins A is from 0.01 to 2. These synthetic resin formulations are suitable for coating, adhesive bonding, sealing or impregnating.
