    Abstract: Polyadducts/polycondensates which can be diluted with water when protonated with an acid and which contain basic nitrogen groups are obtained by the polyaddition reaction of (A) a Mannich base obtained from (a) a monophenol and/or a polyphenol, (b) one or more dialkylamines of the formula where R1 and R2 are each alkyl or alkoxyalkyl, or are linked to one another to form a 5-membered or 6-membered ring, and (c) formaldehyde with (B) an epoxy resin and contain groups, which are bonded to aromatic rings, of the general formula and may or may not contain groups of the general formula where R3 and R4 are each alkyl, hydroxyalkyl or alkoxyalkyl, or are linked to one another to form a 5-membered or 6-membered ring, and R5 and R6 are each hydrogen or methyl. These products are useful as binders for the cathodic electrocoating of metallic articles.

    Abstract: The heat-curable coating agent according to the invention contains a combination of a binder, which possesses basic nitrogen groups and is rendered water-dilutable by protonation with an acid, and a crosslinking agent and, if required, pigments, fillers, corrosion inhibitors, surface coating assistants and catalysts, and the binder used is a reaction product of a dicarboxylic acid or of a dicarboxylate or of a (meth)acrylate oligomer or polymer with an adduct of a di- or triglycidyl ether and a polyamine, the polyamine containing 2 or more amine nitrogen atoms per molecule and one or more alkylene chains of 3 or more carbon atoms between the amino groups, and has an NH amine number of from 50 to 150 mg of KOH/g and is combined with aminoplasts and/or phenoplasts as crosslinking agents. The novel coating agent is useful as a binder for the cathodic electrocoating of metal articles.

    Abstract: A polyadduct/polycondensate, which is water-dilutable when protonated with an acid, and which contains basic nitrogen groups, is obtained by polyaddition reaction of (A) Mannich bases obtained from monophenols and/or polyphenols, one or more secondary amines which contain one or more hydroxyalkyl groups, or a mixture of such a secondary amine with another secondary amine, and formaldehyde or a formaldehyde donor, with (B) an epoxy resin, the polyadduct/polycondensate of (A) and (B) containing groups, bonded to aromatic rings, of the formula (I) (I) with or without groups of the general formula II (II) where R1 is a polydienyl radical, R2 and R3 are hydrogen or methyl and R4 and R5 are alkyl, hydroxyalkyl or alkoxyalkyl or are linked to one another to form a 5-membered or 6-membered ring. The polyadduct/polycondensate can be used, for example, as a surface-coating binder for the cathodic electrocoating of metal articles.
