Abstract: The invention relates to a process for the preparation of chlorofluorocarbon-free (CFC-free), elastomeric, semi-rigid or rigid mouldings containing urethane groups or urethane and urea groups and having a cellular core and a compacted peripheral zone with an essentially pore-free, smooth surface, by reacting a) organic and/or modified organic polyisocyanates with b) at least one relatively high-molecular-weight compound containing at least two reactive hydrogen atoms and optionally c) low-molecular-weight chain extenders and/or crosslinking agents, in the presence of d) blowing agents, e) catalysts, f) at least one microporous activated charcoal and/or a microporous carbon molecular sieve, which preferably has a mean pore diameter with more than 40% in the range from 0.3 to 3 nm, a pore volume of from 0.20 to 1.4 ml/g and a BET surface area of from 500 to 2500 m /g or greater, and optionally further additives and g) auxiliaries, in a closed mould with compaction.

Abstract: N,N'-Disubstd. 5-iminopyrrolidin-2-ones of formula (I) in which the gps. USE/ADVANTAGE - The process is similar and more economical to carry out than previous processes and is suitable for industrial scale operation. High yields of (I) of good purity can be obtd.. The (I) can be catalytically hydrogenated to give N-substd. 2-pyrrolidones, useful as solvents and extraction agents.
