Abstract: The invention relates to a process and a separation system for removing particles, in particular soot particles, from particle-containing process gas streams occurring in chemical or petrochemical plants. According to the invention, the particle removal is carried out in a partly thermally regenerable separation system. The particles are advantageously removed from the gas stream in a two-stage separation system, the first stage being composed of centrifugal separators, preferably multicyclones, and the second stage being composed of fine filters made of sintered metals, preferably of ferritic sintered metals. For the regeneration, the temperature is increased to a value above the ignition temperature of soot and, if required, an oxygen-containing auxiliary gas is added. The regeneration is preferably carried out periodically.

Abstract: In a process for the manufacture of sodium dithionite by reacting sulfur dioxide with sodium formate and aqueous sodium hydroxide solution in the presence of methanol, an aqueous methanolic solution of sodium formate is first produced by reacting carbon monoxide with sodium hydroxide solution in an aqueous medium, containing from 1 to 50% by weight of methanol, based on the amount of water, at from 80 to 120 DEG C. under a pressure of from 10 to 40 bars. The resulting aqueous methanolic solution can be reacted directly, in the conventional manner, with sulfur dioxide and aqueous sodium hydroxide solution to give sodium dithionite.
