    Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To easily and safely obtain the corresponding alcohol in high conversion even in the case of high concentration of the raw material, by hydrolysis of a monosubstituted alkyl halide in the presence of water on active carbon impregnated with a specific hydroxide. SOLUTION: An alkyl monohalide (pref. a 1-3C alkyl monohalide or 1-3C monohalide) in its mixture is hydrolyzed, in the presence of water, pref. under an absolute pressure of 1-5 bar at 120-300 deg.C, on active carbon impregnated with 1-40 (pref. 5-25) wt.% of an alkali metal (alkaline earth metal) hydroxide (pref. sodium hydroxide) to virtually quantitatively convert the alkyl monohalide to the corresponding alcohol. This hydrolysis process is flexible for components to be used (they may be in the form of gas or liquid phase). This process, because of its simplicity and inexpensiveness, is also useful for producing a great variety of alcohols on a large scale from the corresponding moderately substituted halohydrocarbons.

    Abstract: A process is claimed for the prodn of THF from mixts (I) contg THF, butane-1,4-diol (II), gamma-butyrolactone (III), succinate esters and alcohols, which are obtd by the catalytic hydrogenation of maleic, succinic or fumaric acid, or esters thereof, or maleic or succinic anhydride, in the presence of alcohols; the process comprises distn of the THF, alcohols and water, heating the residue at 100-250 deg C in the presence of a layer silicate (IV), distn of the THF and water formed in the reaction, and sepn of THF from the distillate. More specifically, (I) are produced by hydrogenation of maleic anhydride (MA) in the presence of butanols, and contain THF, butanol, propanol, (II), (III), dibutyl succinate (V) and water; distn of (I) before treatment with (IV) gives THF, propanol, butanol and water; traces of catalyst components are removed from the mixt before treatment with (IV).

    Abstract: The invention relates to a process and a separation system for removing particles, in particular soot particles, from particle-containing process gas streams occurring in chemical or petrochemical plants. According to the invention, the particle removal is carried out in a partly thermally regenerable separation system. The particles are advantageously removed from the gas stream in a two-stage separation system, the first stage being composed of centrifugal separators, preferably multicyclones, and the second stage being composed of fine filters made of sintered metals, preferably of ferritic sintered metals. For the regeneration, the temperature is increased to a value above the ignition temperature of soot and, if required, an oxygen-containing auxiliary gas is added. The regeneration is preferably carried out periodically.
