Abstract: Flat composite (I) 1-20 mm thick, with density 0.1-1.6g/cub.cm., flexural strength (DIN 53423) 5-60 Pa, E modulus in flexure (DIN 53457) 500-6000 Pa, impact strength (DIN 53453) 5-50 kJ/sq.m., and heat flexural resistance temp. (DIN 53424) 110-250 deg.C., comprising a cellular polyurethane (PU) thermoset having embedded 51-80 wt.%, on total wt., of a fibre-contg. flat object (II). Prodn. of (I) by (a) laying a (II) in open mould and spraying with amt. of foamable PU thermosetting mixt. having viscosity 200-2000mPa-s at 20 deg.C and gel time 15-240 seconds at 80 deg.C such that wt. ratio of (II) to foamable PU mixt. is 51-80:49-20, or laying analogously obtd. (II) sprayed with foamable PU mixt. in open mould; (b) closing mould; (c) alloying PU mixt. to foam and harden in closed mould.

Abstract: Filaments and fibers based on polypropylene or copolymers thereof having a content of from 10 to 90% by weight of bitumen and a process for their manufacture, in which a mixture based on polypropylene or copolymers thereof and containing from 10 to 90% by weight of bitumen is melt-spun and drawn. The filaments and fibers produced in the manner of the invention are suitable for the production of woven and non-woven fabrics for insulating purposes and carpet underlays.

Abstract: Oxygen-containing waxes are produced by oxidising with oxygen or free-oxygen containing gases an ethylene polymer of molecular weight 2,000-20,000 in the presence of at least 50% of a saturated C2- 6 carboxylic acid and a catalyst dissolved in the reaction mixture comprising 0.1-1% of one or more manganese and/or cobalt salts and 0.1-1% of halide ions, at 110-140 DEG C. until the polymer has an acid number of 5-90. The oxygen may be used in the form of air. The catalyst may comprise a permanganate, a manganous and/or cobaltons salt, e.g. acetates, stearates, naphthenates, chlorides or bromides and halide ions which may be provided by adding 0.1-0.7% hydrochloric acid to the polymer at below 75 DEG C. The ethylene polymers may be copolymers with carbon monoxide and contain 10-30 carbonyl groups/1,000 C atoms or prepared by thermal degradation of polyethylene. The carboxylic acid may be acetic, propionic, valeric or caproic. The process may be carried out at up to 100 Atm. pressure. An emulsifier, e.g. sulphonates of or oxyalkylated fatty alcohols or aliphatic esters of phosphoric acid, may be used. The waxes may be used alone as emulsions for producing polishes and to finish textiles and paper.
