    Abstract: The present invention relates to an electrically heatable packed pressure-bearing device for performing endothermic reactions having an upper (3), middle (1) and lower (3) device section, wherein at least one vertically disposed electrode pair (4, 5) is fitted in the middle section (1) and all electrodes are arranged in an electrically conducting solid packing (26), the upper and lower device sections have a specific conductivity of 105 S/m to 108 S/m, and the middle device section is electrically isolated against the solid packing, characterized in that the upper and the lower device sections are electrically isolated against the middle device section, the upper electrode is connected via the upper device section and the lower electrode is connected via the lower device section or the electrodes each are connected via one or more connecting elements (10, 16) electrically contacting these sections and the ratio of the cross-sectional areas of the upper and the lower electrodes to the cross-sectional area of the relevant power-conducting connecting element, or if no connecting element is used, the ratio of the cross-sectional area of the upper and the lower electrode to the cross-sectional area of the relevant power-conducting device section is 0.1 to 10.
