    Abstract: The present invention relates to a process for continuous dry granulation of powdered carbon black. Granulation is carried out with the assistance of a granulator. As a result, for comparable sized equipment, the carbon black throughput can be increased several times as compared with pelletizing drums used in the conventional manner. The manufacturing process is characterized in that granulation is carried out within a granulator the shaft of which is provided with pins, wherein peripheral speed of the ends of the pins ranges between 1 to 6 m/s and an average residence time for the carbon black in the granulator ranges within 20 to 600 seconds. Space between the ends of the pins and the stator wall is preferably from 0.5 to 3 mm and granulation temperature is in the range of about 50 to 150 degC.

The carbon black powder is fed into the inlet zone. Molten wax or wax mixture with an average droplet size NOTGREATER 50 micron is sprayed into the first third of the granulation zone. The shaft operates at a maximum peripheral velocity of 1-6 m/s and the average residence time of the carbon black in the machine is 20-600 seconds.
