    Abstract: A process for repairing an electronic array wafer assembly having a short circuit between two non-insulative layers (116,113a,113b) separated by a dielectric layer (114) includes the step of selectively ablating one of the non-insulative layers so as to electrically isolate the situs of the short circuit while maintaining the electrical integrity of the underlying non-insulative layer intact. A laser beam is directed onto the non-insulative layer and scanned in a selected pattern to isolate the situs of the short circuit; the laser is further controlled such that a selected energy density is delivered to the surface to be ablated such that the underlying non-insulative layer (113a,113b) is not damaged.

    Abstract: A gas detection system for identifying gases 12 includes a sensing module 10 with a hollow chamber 14 enclosed by a chamber housing 16, an optical sensing fibre 18 positioned within the chamber which includes a gas sensor comprising one or more fibre Bragg gratings positioned at locations along the fibre, and a sensing layer on an exterior surface of the sensing fibre at the grating locations. After the gas is directed into the chamber through inlet 13, the grating sensing layer and the gas exchange heat energy through convection, based in part on a heat transfer coefficient of the gas. The exchange of the heat energy induces a shift in a Bragg resonant wavelength of the fibre Bragg grating which exceeds a threshold shift required for detection, where the shift is used to identify the gas. Binary or multiple gases may be detected.

    Abstract: A fiber optic sensor system employs at least one light source that operates to generate light having one or more desired wavelengths. A first optical fiber based sensor transparent to a desired light wavelength operates to sense a magnetic field emitted from a predetermined electrical conductor or a current flowing through the electrical conductor. A temperature sensor that may be another optical fiber based sensor operates to sense an operating temperature associated with the first optical fiber based sensor in response to the light generated by the light source. Signal-processing electronics adjust the sensed current to substantially compensate for temperature induced errors associated with the sensed current in response to the measured operational temperature of the fiber optic sensor.
