    Abstract: PURPOSE:To obtain a polyurethane excellent in thermal conductivity, friability and filling properties by reacting an organic polyisocyanate with a polyol in the presence of a specific catalyst composition and a foaming agent. CONSTITUTION:The catalyst composition is composed of 50-70wt.% 1- methylimdazole and/or 1-isobutyl-2-methylimidazole, 20-30wt.% N,N,N- trimethylaminoethylpiperazine, 5-15wt.% bis (dimethylaminoethyl) ether and 5-10wt.% formic acid. Furthermore, the objective polyurethane is obtained by reacting an organic polyisocyanate (preferably crude diphenylmethane diisocyanate, crude tolylene diisocyanate, etc.) with a polyol (preferably polyester polyols, a glycol, glycerol, etc.) in the presence of this catalyst composition and a foaming agent. Water used as the foaming agent is added in an amount of preferably 3-6 pts.wt. based on 100 pts.wt. polyol.

    Abstract: PURPOSE:To provide the subject catalyst composed of methylimidazole and dimethylimidazole at a specific ratio, having high catalytic activity and short curing time and giving a polyurethane foam having excellent glueability. CONSTITUTION:The objective catalyst is composed of (A) 30-70wt.% of 1- methylimidazole and (B) 70-30wt.% of 1,2-dimethylimidazole. The catalyst is useful for the production of a polyurethane foam by reacting a compound having >=2 active hydrogen atoms and a molecular weight of 300-10,000 (e.g. polyol) with a polyisocyanate in the presence of a foaming agent.

    Abstract: PURPOSE:To obtain an additive which can give a polyurethane improved in hydrolysis resistance and antistatic properties by using a specified quat. ammonium compound as an essential component. CONSTITUTION:A tert. amine is quaternized with an alkyl chloride in a solvent, and the product is subjected to salt exchange by adding dropwise sodium perchlorate to obtain a quat. ammonium compound (A) of the formula (wherein R1 is 1-12 C alkyl, aryl or benzyl). Component A as an essential component is optionally mixed with a metal salt of an inorganic acid, selected from among alkali (alkaline earth) metal salts of perchloric acid, thiocyanic acid and nitric acid, in a ratio of (5-1):1 to obtain the title additive. A mixture of a compound having at least two active hydrogen groups with an organic isocyanate is reacted in the presence of 0.05-10wt.% (in terms of component A), based on the mixture, above additive to obtain a polyurethane.

CONSTITUTION:A tert. amine is reacted with a dialkyl sulfate in an amount equivalent to that of the amine in a solvent to obtain a quat. ammonium compound (A) of the formula (wherein R1 is 6-24 C alkyl; R2 and R2' are each H or 1-3 C alkyl; R is 1-3 C alkyl; and R is 1-12 C alkyl or 1-6 C alkoxy). Component A as an essential component is optionally mixed with a metal salt of an inorganic acid, selected from among alkali (alkaline earth) metal salts of perchloric acid, thiocyanic acid and nitric acid, in a ratio of (5-1):1 to obtain the title additive. A mixture of a compound having at least two active hydrogen atoms with an organic isocyanate is reacted in the presence of 0.05-10wt.% (in terms of component A), based on the mixture, above additive to obtain a polyurethane.

    Abstract: PURPOSE:To obtain a catalyst which is odorless, can be easily handled and can give a polyurethane having good air permeability and compression set by using a specified compound having a specified dimethylamino structure. CONSTITUTION:A catalyst for producing a polyurethane comprising a compound of the formula (wherein n is 1-3; R1 is H or CH3; and R2 is an isocyanate residue). Although a morpholine catalyst such as N-methylmorpholine is conventionally used as a catalyst for producing a polyurethane, it is difficult to work because of its low b.p. and strong irritating odor. Further, the obtained polyurethane product emits a strong irritating odor. Although an organotin compound which is a commonly used organometallic compound is lowly odorous, it is a resinification catalyst having a strong catalytic activity and therefore cannot be used alone. Because the compound of the above formula which is a reaction product of dimethylaminopolyalkanolamine with an isocyanate has a moderate catalystic activity, is odorless and gives a foam which has excellent properties, it is suitable as a catalyst for producing polyurethane.
