    Abstract: An electrical connector (1) (see Fig. 1) which is to be surface-mounted to a printed circuit board (6) has terminals (11) with inverted "T"-shaped soldering portions (12) to be electrically connected to conductors on the printed circuit board (6) each by soldering its soldering portion (12) to a conductor. The soldering portion comprises a flat foot (17) and a leg (18) which is integrally connected to and rising from the midportion of said foot (17). The relatively large foot (17) has an effect of causing substantial reduction of load per unit soldering area upon application of an undesired force to the terminal (11) and of increasing the strength of the soldering joint against removal from the conductor of the printed circuit board (6).

    Abstract: A SIMM socket with a metal latch (120) for retaining a SIMM therein is provided. The socket includes a housing (160) having a SIMM receiving slot (166) and a plurality of terminals (30) with contact beams extending into the slot. The SIMM is inserted into the slot in a first angular alignment with minimal insertion forces, and is rotted into a second alignment for achieving high quality electrical connection with the contact beams of the respective terminals. A metal latch (120) is provided for releasably retaining the SIMM in the preferred angular alignment within the socket. The latch is stamped and formed from a unitary piece of metallic material and includes a housing engaging portion (122) mounted around a mounting post (174) of the housing and a deflectable SIMM engaging portion (130). The housing includes walls for controlling the types and ranges of deflection that are permitted for the SIMM engaging portion.

    Abstract: An edge connector (10) is adapted for use with a printed circuit board (11) having a mating edge (11a) and a plurality of contact pads (42) on opposite sides of the board adjacent the edge. The connector includes an elongated dielectric housing (12) having a slot (20) for receiving the mating edge of the printed circuit board. A plurality of terminals (26) are mounted on the housing along the slot. Each terminal includes a pair of side support portions (28a, 28b) fixed to the housing outside opposite sides of the slot, a cross brace portion (30) extending between the side support portions, a terminating portion (32) projecting below the cross brace portion and a spring contact arm (34) projecting upwardly from the cross brace portion and including a contact portion (34b) for engaging one of the contact pads on the printed circuit board. The terminals are oriented in an alternating array along the slot whereby the contact portions alternatingly engage contact pads on opposite sides of the printed circuit board.

    Abstract: A connector (10) for an edge card (102) which includes a plurality of contact terminals (50) spaced apart in an elongated connector housing (12) has a single, latch/eject mechanism (200) rotatably disposed at one end thereof which securely latches the edge card in place within the connector housing and which, when actuating force is applied thereto, partially ejects one end of the edge card out of the connector housing to allow the edge card to be "zippered" out of the connector. The mechanism includes a member having two upwardly extending engagement arms (216, 218). The member is rotatable between two positions: a first position wherein the edge card is held by the member in a space (212) between the two engagement arms and a second position wherein the member partially urges the edge card out of the connector housing.
