Abstract: PURPOSE:To obtain a curable composition, containing 3,3'-divinylbiphenyl as one component and capable of providing optical materials, coating agents, sealing media, etc., having a high refractive index and excellent in curability heat resistance, low water absorbability and optical homogeneity. CONSTITUTION:The objective composition consisting of (A) 10-90wt.% polymerizable monomer consisting of 3,3'-divinylbiphenyl expressed by the formula and (B) 90-10wt.% other vinylic monomers [e.g. unsaturated fatty acid ester, aromatic vinyl compound, unsaturated fatty acid (derivative), unsaturated dibasic acid (derivative) or vinyl cyanide compound, such as (meth)acrylonitrile] copolymerizable with the component (A). Furthermore, the component (A) is synthesized by a method for, e.g. reacting a 3-halogenostyrene with metallic magnesium in an ethereal solvent, such as tetrahydrofuran, to prepare an active organomagnesium compound and reacting the resultant compound with an Ni complex catalyst, such as Ni(Cl2)(bpy).

Abstract: PURPOSE:To manufacture a plastic lens of a favorable quality at a favorable yield by eliminating generating of surface contamination or annular irregularities of a molding and preventing mold release during polymerization, by a method wherein thermal polymerization is performed under water where the density of dissolved oxygen is specific or below at least until a stage where gelation begins by polymerizing a raw material monomer. CONSTITUTION:Thermal polymerization is performed under water where density of dissolved oxygen is 5ppm or lower at least until a stage where gelation begins by polymerizing a raw material monomer, in a method manufacturing a plastic lens by polymerizing thermally by casting the raw material monomer into an air gap of two matrices arranged in a confronting state. Thermal polymerization of the usable raw materials suffers form oxygen regardless of a degree of the same and, for example, an aryl compound or its pre-reactant, an allylidene compound or its pre-reactant and (meth)acrylate compound or its pre-reactant are available. In addition, the raw material monomer is used by adding 0.001-10 pts.wt. radical polymerization initiator per 100 pts.wt. raw material monomer.

Abstract: PURPOSE:To improve production efficiency by shortening the molding cycle of a disk along with molding of a foamless optical information recording disk, by a method wherein the inside of a cavity of a mold is evacuated, a crosslinking type curing resin composite is cast within the cavity through injection and said resin composite is cured by irradiation with high-energy rays from the outside of the mold through an aperture part. CONSTITUTION:The inside of a cavity 4 is evacuated up to 10 Torr by clamping a mold 1. A predetermined quantity of a resin composite is cast at pressure of 10kg/cm by making use of a metering pump. Ultraviolet rays are directed to the resin composite through an aperture part 5 constituted of quartz plates 5a, 5b of the mold 1. Cooling is performed by passing cooling water kept at 30 deg.C through the mold 1 during irradiation with the ultraviolet rays. A disk is taken out by making use of the mold 1 after that.

Abstract: PURPOSE:To facilitate to control the curing reaction of resin and effect resin molding having short molding cycle by a method wherein hardening resin composition is injected into a mold consisting of a material, whose one part permeates high energy rays, and the high energy rays are projected against the resin composition through the mold. CONSTITUTION:The hardening resin, polymerization initiating agent and the like are sent out of material tanks 9A, 9B respectively to introduce them into a mixing and metering unit 10 and mix them uniformly after metering necessary amount in the mixing and metering unit 10, thereafter, they are sent into an injection molding machine 8. The injection molding machine 8 pressurizes the composition and injects them into a cavity through the pouring port of the mold 6. On the other hand, laser beams 2, generated in a laser beam generating unit 1, are expanded so as to be adaptable to the mold 6 by a diaphragm 3 and the group of lenses 4, 5 and are projected against the composition in the cavity through a window 7. After projecting the beams for a predetermined time, the resin, cured in the cavity, is taken out of the cavity.

CONSTITUTION:A (meth)acryloyl group of a compound expressed by formula I (R and R are H or methyl; m and n are 1-5) is subjected to addition polymerization together with mercapto functional group of a polythiol expressed by formula II (R is organic group composed of polyfunctional aliphatic or aromatic hydrocarbon; n is integer of >=2) in an equivalent ratio of 0.02-1.01 preferably in the presence of a basic catalyst such as triphenylphosphine to obtain a prepolymer having a polythiol skeleton. Next, a radical polymerization initiator, preferably in an amount of 0.01-10 mol%, is added to monomer components composed of 30 wt.% said prepolymer and 70 wt.% polymerizable monomer copolymerizable with said prepolymer to afford the aimed composition.
