    Abstract: The present invention provides a control apparatus for controlling a plurality of recording and reproducing apparatuses (50, 60, 70, 80). The control apparatus according to the present invention comprises elapse time measuring means, responsive to an input reset signal determining an input time point, for commencing to measure time elapse with reference to the input time point, recording position information output means, responsive to an input predetermined signal, for detecting and outputting recording position information from a record medium of one of the recording and reproducing apparatuses, and control means for receiving the time elapse measured by said elapse time measuring means, determining an execution time in response to the time elapse, and executing an operation command at said execution time in response to said operation command.

Conversely, in a case where the communication delay time is long so that a low possibility exists that the communication delay time falls within the specific range, the degree of freedom in communication is lowered. Thus, it is allowable to implement a system that ensures a high barrier to unauthorized content distributions, and also, does not have any remarkable restrictions on a rightful home use.

    Abstract: A data communication technique enables a reduction in the number of terminals in equipment for inputting or outputting a real time digital signal such as a digital audio signal and a music/musical instrument signal. A first converter (6) and a second converter (7) are provided with a function of mutual conversion between a signal format of a digital audio interface and a signal format of IEEE-1394. For example, it is possible to transmit a signal of a digital audio interface outputted from a first CD player (1) to the first converter (6), to convert the signal there into a packet of IEEE-1394 isochronous transmission format and transmit it to the second converter (7), and to return the packet to the digital audio interface and record a digital audio signal in an MD recorder (3). When a converter having a function of mutual conversion between the MIDI signal format and the IEEE-1394 signal format is provided, it is also possible to perform bidirectional data communication among a plurality of MIDI musical instruments.
