    Abstract: A system and method are provided for sensing an image of an object and an optical code associated with the object and generating respective object ima ge data and optical code image data. A database stores a plurality of digital codes and an object image data entry associated with each respective digital code of the plurality of digital codes. A processing unit generates at least one digital code; accesses at least one object image data entry associated with at least one respective stored digital code that substantially matches the respective at least one generated digital code; and compares the object image data with the at least one accessed object image data entry and determines if the comparison results are within a predetermined image recognition certainty threshold. An RFID reader and imaging system is also provided having a device for imaging an object associated with a tag whose RFID code is read by an RFID reader. The imaging device generates image data associated with the imaged object. The system further includes a database storing RFID codes associated with a plurality of objects and complete or extracted image data associated with each stored RFID code. Verification software executable on at least one processor of the system is provided for verifying whether the RFID code presented to be read and processed by the RF ID reader and imaging system corresponds to the imaged object. The process of verification is performed by comparing the acquired image data or other data associated with the imaged object with the stored image data or other stored data corresponding with the RFID code read. If the acquired image data or other data substantially matches the stored image data or other stored data, then the system verifies that the appropriate RFID code was read. If the acquired image data or other data does not substantially match the stored image data or other stored data, then the system verifies that the appropria te RFID code was not read, or that the system contains an error.

    Abstract: Described is a system and method for encrypted communications. The system may include first and second transponders. The first transponder has a first memory arrangement that stores a first key. The second transponder includes a second memory arrangement and has an access to a second key. The first transponder generates a first message for delivery to the second transponder, and encrypts the first message using a randomization key to generate a second message. Then, the first transponder encrypts (a) the second message and (b) one of the a randomization key corresponding index using the first key to generate a third message. The second key may decrypt the third message.

    Abstract: A plurality of the areas of differing light reflectivity of a bar code symbol (34) or the like are simultaneously illuminated using, for example, a beam of laser light (22) that has an elongate cross-section. The light beam (22) is swept over the symbol to be read in a direction transverse to the elongated dimension of the illuminated region (78) so that a two-dimensional area (42) of the symbol is illuminated over time. The reflected light is sensed by a 1D CCD array (50). A microprocessor (52) within the scanner provides visual feedback to aid a user in aligning the device, and also provides for a selectable aspect ratio for the image, a selectable image resolution and size, a selectable aspect ratio of the illumination, and a selectable pixel size. All of these options may be programmed within the microprocessor (52), enabling the device to read a large variety of two-dimensional symbols.

    Abstract: Methods and apparatus for direct part mark scanning where a scanner operator is provided with a scanner comprising a slanted front end. The slanted front comprises a window for a scan module, such as, for example a camera, and an illumination module. The slanted front guides a user to tilt the scanner when scanning dataforms. Additionally, the internal scan module can be positioned to view a target dataform at an angle, even when the object being scanned is not tilted with regard to the scanner body.

    Abstract: Method and apparatus of detecting orientation of document using a barcode decoding. The method includes (1) capturing an image of the document with an imaging arrangement having a solid-state imager; (2) determining a presence of a barcode in the captured image of the document; (3) decoding the barcode; (4) determining an up-direction of the document as a function of an orientation of the barcode in the document; and (5) setting an orientation of the document in the captured image based upon the up-direction of the document. In one implementation, the barcode is configured with orientation data indicating the up-direction of the document.
