Abstract: PURPOSE:To enhance moldability, heat resistance and impact resistance by mixing a reinforcing filler with a cyclohexylenedimethylene terephthalate type polyester resin with specific intrinsic viscosity containing a repeating unit wherein a terephthalic acid residue and a 1,4-cyclohexanedimethanol residue are bonded. CONSTITUTION:1-40wt.% of a reinforcing.filler is compounded with a cyclohexylenedimethylene terephthalate type polyester resin with intrinsic viscosity of 0.5-2.0 containing 80mol% or more of a repeating unit wherein a terephthalic acid residue and 1,4-cyclohexanedimethanol residue are bonded to prepare a resin compsn. which is, in turn, subjected to blow molding. The cis/trans ratio (mol ratio) of the 1,4-cyclohexane ring PCT type polyester is pref. 60/40-10/90. The reinforcing filler is a fibrous, granular or flaky filler and a glass fiber is especially pref.

CONSTITUTION:A thermoplastic polyester resin compsn. is prepd. by incorporating 0.005 to 10 pts.wt. metal salt of a benzophenone compd. (A) of formula I (wherein R1 and R2 are each a 13C or lower hydrocarbon group; M1 and M2 are each an alkali metal, an alkaline earth metal, a metalloid or a transition metal; (a) is 1/(m); (b) is 1/(n); (m) and (n) are each 1 to 3) (e.g. formulas II and III) in 100 pts.wt. thermoplastic polyester (B) (e.g. polybutylene terephthalate). As the obtd. resin compsn. is incorporated with the component A as a crystallization accelerator, little decrease in mol.wt. occurs in molding and the molded item exhibits good mechanical properties and is suitably used as automotive parts, etc.

SOLUTION: This flame-retardant butylene terephthalate resin is a composition obtained by compounding (A) 100 pts.wt. of a polybutylene terephthalate resin or 100 pts.wt. of the total of the polybutylene terephthalate resin and a polyethylene terephthalate resin with (B) 1-100 pts.wt. of an epoxy modified styrenic resin, (C) 1-100 pts.wt. of a phosphoric ester and (D) 1-150 pts.wt. of a salt of a triazine-based compound and cyanuric acid or isocyanuric acid and does not contain 25 pts.wt. of a polyphenylene ether and a polyphenylene sulfide.

Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a process for the efficient preparation of the poly(butylene terephthalate)(PBT) containing little alien substance with little byproduct of THF. SOLUTION: The process for the preparation of PBT, comprising the esterification of terephthalic acid and 1,4-butan diol and then the polycondensation thereof, is characterized by carrying out the above esterification at two or more steps, the first step of which esterification is carried out continuously in a way that a molar ratio of the diol component to the dicarboxylic acid component is made to be in the range of more than 0.7 to less than 1.1, and the second or more steps of which esterification undergoes a continuous esterification by adding additionally the remained diol component.
