Abstract: PURPOSE:To obtain satisfactory antimicrobial and deodorant performances by incorporating the forms consisting metal ions, at least a part of which has an antimicrobial effect, and cation exchange fibers which are substd. with ions having a deodorant effect and have the antimicrobial and deodorant performances, into the articles. CONSTITUTION:The forms consisting of the metal ions, at least a part of which have the antimicrobial effect, and the cation exchange fibers which are substd. with the ions having the deodorant effect and have the antimicrobial and deodorant performances, are incorporated into the sanitary articles, such as diapers, urination training drawers, pads for incontinence, physiological napkins and throw-away underwear. Such forms include paper, felt, woven fabrics, etc. The cation exchange fibers are formed as composite fibers consisting of ion exchange polymers and reinforcing material polymers. Any of copper, silver and zinc is used for the metal ions having the antimicrobial effect. The cation exchange fibers 6 are disposed on the lower layer of an absorbent 5 enclosed by a non- woven fabric 2, by which the required antimicrobial and deodorant performances are obtd. in the case of embodiment of the invention as the physiological napkins.

Abstract: PURPOSE:To obtain an adsorbent which is easy to be formed, having excellent adsorbing properties and low pressure loss, and is usable for cleaing in a wide range, and to provided its manufacturing method. CONSTITUTION:A fibrous absorbent is composed of composite fibers consisting of an aromatic monovinyl-type polymer A and a thermally plastic polymer B except for polymer A, and the aromatic monovinyl-type polymer A composing the fibers has fine pores and 0.1m2/g or more of specific surface area. The manufacturing method of the fibrous adsorbent involves mixing a water-soluble polymer C with the aromatic monovinyl-type polymer A, compounding and spinning the mixed polymer with the thermally plastic polymer B except for the polymer A, and removing at least a part of the water-soluble polymer C from the obtained composite fibers.

Abstract: PURPOSE:To obtain the fibrous adsorbent which has a large surface area, has an excellent adsorption performance and allows the easy and inexpensive selec tive adsorption of materials to be adsorbed by forming extremely fine fibers of a polymonovinyl arom. compd. having specified or lower single yarn fineness. CONSTITUTION:Three-component conjugate fibers consisting of a sea component of polyester, etc., an island-sheath component of polystyrene, etc., and an island- core component of polypropylene, etc., are crimped by crimper. The fibers are then treated with an aq. soln. of caustic soda to remove the polyester of the sea component and thereafter the fibers are washed to neutrality and dried, by which the crimped tow of the extremely fine fibers is obtd. Abstract: PURPOSE:To extend the filtering life of precoat to a large extent and to enhance the quality of treated water by using a powdery ion exchange resin and an ion exchange fiber as a precoat material and performing the coating operation of an element with the precoat material in parts before and during the treatment of raw water. CONSTITUTION:A powdery ion exchange resin and an ion exchange fiber are used as a precoat material and the precoating operation of an element with the precoat material is performed in parts before and during the treatment of raw water. The filter material precoated before the treatment of raw water collects impurities by internal filtration and, at the point of time when the internal filtration changes to surface filtration as impurities become a cake form with the advance of filtration, the filter material is further precoated with the new precoat material to perform internal filtration by a new precoat layer and, therefore, an internal filtration time can be effectively secured by the same amount of the precoat layer. Further, the life of the precoat material is extended by the mixing with the ion exchange fiber and the quality of treated water can be enhanced.
