Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a color picture tube, having a sufficient curved surface holding strength even if the curved surface of its shadow mask is flattened, and a method for manufacturing the same. SOLUTION: In a color picture tube, a substantially rectangular shadow mask 15 placed inside a substantially rectangular panel 11 comprises a substantially rectangular frame 23 and a substantially rectangular mask main body 22 whose curved surface opposite to a phosphor screen 14 has a number of electron beam holes formed therein and whose periphery is secured to the frame. In this case, the mask main body is curved in the direction of its minor axis and is secured to the frame while internal stresses in the direction for reducing the radius of curvature in the direction of the minor axis are applied thereto.

Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a fluorescent screen forming method by which constriction and meandering of a stripe-shaped light absorbing layer and a phosphor layer can be reduced, and an aligner therefor. SOLUTION: In this fluorescent screen forming method, a stripe-shaped pattern corresponding to an opening hole row of a shadow mask, is printed on a photosensitive fluorescent screen forming member layer 19 formed on an inside surface of a panel 2 by an aligner having a long light source 21 where plural opening holes are arranged by setting the opening hole row direction of the shadow mask 5 arranged in a row through a bridge as the longitudinal direction, a cover 27 of this long light source and an optical path length difference correcting lens 28. In this case, the long light source and the optical path length difference correcting lens are fixed, and the stripe-shaped pattern corresponding to the opening hole row of the shadow mask is printed on the photosensitive fluorescent screen forming member layer while vibrating the cover in the longitudinal direction of the long light source.

Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To effectively restrain a mask body and a mask frame from being deformed, by providing steps on side wall parts of the mask frame, partially projecting the side wall parts, and maximizing the distance between facing side wall parts on the stepped part. SOLUTION: Each one stepped part 31 is formed on long side wall parts 28L positioned on a short axis V of a mask frame 30 of a shadow mask 21 symmetrically with the longitudinal direction, and the distance between facing long side wall parts is so set as to be larger than the distance dv between the facing long side wall parts in the center part in the longitudinal direction and the distance ds between the facing long side wall parts near the short side wall parts 28S. Two wedge-shaped clearances 32 are formed between a mask body 27 and the long side wall parts 28L, the maximum width W on the stepped part 31 is set into the range of 1 to 3mm, the length L1 of the clearance 32 extending along the longitudinal direction of the long side wall part 28L is set in relation to the distance L between the short axis V and the short side wall parts 28S so as to satisfy the expression: L1=(0.7 to 0.9)L. Therefore, undesirable force to be applied to the mask body 27 by the variations in manufacture of the mask frame 30 can be decreased.
