Abstract: PURPOSE:To apply this manufacture to a small-sized lamp or the like, facilitate the stem sealing, and satisfactorily exhaust air by arranging a glass stem having an electrode and an exhaust pipe on an opening end face of a glass bulb via a metal auxiliary blocking member and feeding a high-frequency current through the auxiliary blocking member to weld it. CONSTITUTION:A glass bulb 1 opened on both end faces 11 and 11 is prepared, an auxiliary blocking member 4 is brought into contact with one opening end face 11, a glass stem 3 is arranged at the inner center of this member 4. Three members 1, 3 and 4 thus located are pressed together and placed in a high-frequency coil 5, and a high-frequency current is fed. An induction current is induced in the member 4, the member 4 is red-heated, the opening end section 11 of the bulb 1 and the flare section 32 of the stem 3 are locally melted, the molten glass is deposited on the auxiliary blocking member 4. The bulb 1 end the stem 3 are sealed via the auxiliary blocking member 4. The bulb and the stem can be easily constituted even if at least one point of the size, shape and material is incompatible, and the heat loss of the exhaust pipe or the like can be prevented.

Abstract: PURPOSE:To sort the quality of the lamp stably at all times by applying a voltage between the bulb of the lamp wherein a noble gas is charged and causing electric discharge in the lamp. CONSTITUTION:An incandescent lamp 1 is constituted by charging a mixture of 90vol.% argon gas and 10vol.% nitrogen gas in, for example, a glass bulb under pressure of 82,500Ps (room temperature). When a high voltage is applied between discharge terminals 3 and 5 from a high voltage generator 2, glow discharge is caused between the discharge terminal 3 and a filament coil 1c. The forward light of light emitted by the discharge is diffused by a light diffusing transmission plate 7 and photodetected by a sensor 8 having an optical fiber which transmits only light alpha of almost 560mm. Here, when the sensor 8 detects the light emitted by the discharge of the incandescent lamp 1, the maximum peak value corresponding to a conforming article is relatively large, but the maximum peak value corresponding to a seriously defective decreases greatly. Thus, the conforming article and nonconforming article differ in distribution, so the maximum peak value is set previously to sort the conforming and nonconforming articles.

Abstract: PURPOSE:To make a start possible easily at a comparatively low lighting voltage by confining plasma in the vicinity of the discharge surface with a structure which encircles a part of the front surface of a blocking body and communicates with a discharge space. The blocking body is formed by blocking an end surface of a glass bulb and the inner surface is made to form a discharge surface. CONSTITUTION:An encircling body 4 which encircles the front surface of a couple of blocking bodies 3, 3 which block the inner end surface of the bulb 11 is provided and discharging apertures 42, 42... which have communicating parts with the encircling part 41 are arranged lengthwise in a file. When a lighting voltage is applied, a small discharge is generated in the neighborhood of a discharge surface 34 and the plasma in the discharge is confined between the discharge surface 34 and the encircling part 41 and becomes high density to emit electrons and ions. The emitted electrons and ions impinge against the metal surface of the discharge surface 34 and a large quantity of electrons are emitted; then the discharge in the neighborhood of the discharge surface 34 rapidly grows large. The electrons and ions emitted by the discharge are injected into the discharge space through the discharging apertures 42, 42... of the encircling body 4. Therefore, electrons are easily emitted; cathode voltage drop is small and a lamp can be started by a low lighting voltage.

Abstract: PURPOSE:To secure an efficient discharge without an instant brightness variation and an uneven brightness, by discharging between plural electrodes in a discharge bulb with plural electrodes. CONSTITUTION:By a high frequency voltage output from one side secondary coil 14S1 of an output transformer 14, a discharge is exercised at every half cycle of the high frequency wave between electrodes 2 and 6, and between electrodes 4 and 6. And, by a high frequency voltage output from the other side secondary coil 14S2 of the output transformer 14, a discharge is exercised at every half cycle of the high frequency wave between electrodes 5 and 3, and between electrodes 7 and 3. In this half cycle, the discharges between the electrodes 3, 4 and the electrodes 5, 6 are exercised, while in the inverse half cycle, the discharges between the electrodes 2, 3 and the electrodes 6, 7 are exercised. In this case, the discharge from the electrode 3 to the electrode 7, and that from 6 to 2 are simultanous and the directions of the discharge are opposite each other. Therefore, the discharges are exercised inside the whole discharge tube, and no instant brightness variation is produced, resulting in an almost even surface brightness.

Abstract: PURPOSE:To improve mechanical strength and control mutual positional relation with high accuracy while realizing further miniaturization by making opposing faces of adjoining glass tubes into flat surfaces and causing the flat surfaces to make surface contact between them. CONSTITUTION:Flat surfaces 5(a) and 5(b) are formed on mutually opposing faces of U-shaped glass tubes 2(a) and 2(b). And, respective flat faces 5(a) of the U-shaped glass tubes 2(a) and 2(b) are brought into mutual surface contact to be junctioned together by means of a connecting member 3. With such a structure, the adjoining glass tubes 2(a) and 2(b) are brought into mutual contact between the flat surfaces 5(a) and 5(b) with no stress concentrated on any specific point even if external force toward an arrow direction is applied, thereon, thus improving its mechanical strength. The contact surface resulting from the mutual surface contact can be utilized to control their mutual positional relation with high accuracy. In addition, a gap between the glass tubes 2(a) and 2(b) is eliminated to enable minituarization thereof.

Abstract: PURPOSE:To form an opening for bulb connection without causing bulb cracks or breakages by attaching phsophor coating adherence preventing member in the vicinity of an open end of a glass bulb and by removing said preventing member after application of a phosphor screen to the bulb inner surface. CONSTITUTION:A phophor coating adherence preventing film 14 made of high molecular organic compound like for example resist is applied to a position which forms an opening in the vicinity of an open end of a glass bulb 1 such as U-shaped one with its other end closed. Then, with application of phosphor suspension to form a phosphor coating 15 and heating of said coating 15 at about 400 deg.C to bake and evaporate solvent of said coating 15 like residual cellulose nitrate, a coating 14 also evaporates and the coating 15 exfoliates also forming a window part 16 with no coating 15 adherence. If, therefore, the window part 16 is blown up by heating and melting, an opening 3 for plural bulb connections is formed on the bulb 1 without causing bulb cracks or breakages since there exists no coating 15. As a result, a fluorescent bulb body is formed with airtight connection through the opening 3.

Abstract: PURPOSE:To reduce power capacity and enable low voltage operation by arranging a number of hollow cathodes in a tube bulb and time-sharingly performing discharge radiation to a discharge path between each hollow cathode and anode. CONSTITUTION:When a pulse signal is sequentially output from switching element control circuits O1 to O7, only a transistor 4a turns on for hours t1 and t2 and the power voltage from a power circuit 5 is applied to the discharge path between a hollow cathode 2a and a cathode 3 and then the discharge path performs discharge radiation. Then the discharge radiation is generated between each of hollow cathodes 2b to 2g and the cathode 3 in the same way. The front of a tube bulb 1 looks as if it emitted light uniformly by subsequently and repeatedly performing the discharge radiation with high speed. Since a single picture element display is performed by sequentially and alternately peforming discharge every seven hollow cathodes 2a to 2g radiation, the capacity of a power supply can be reduced and low voltage discharge can be made possible by afterglow.
