    Abstract: PURPOSE: To provide a method for applying cellulosic slurry to banded smoking article wrappers with repetitive patterns. CONSTITUTION: Utilizing a screen roller 60 having a surface 51 including alternating regions of a screen section 64 separated by a spacer 66, cellulosic slurry is applied onto a pulp web 21 moving along a path to form repetitive patterns. Utilizing a slurry coater 46 including a slurry feeder 47, a knife 48 and a slurry return 49, a continuous thin layer of the slurry is applied to the surface 51 of the screen roller 60, and the slurry is allowed to adhere to only the screen section 64 by the vacuum force provide by a vacuum port 54. The roller 60 is rotated so that the adhered slurry moves to a region 51B adjacent to both the web 21 and a pressure port 52, and then the pressure port 52 forces the internal surface of the screen section 64 to release the slurry from the screen section 64, applies the released slurry to the web 21 and forms the repetitive patterns. The preferable widths of the screen section and the spacer range are 2-8 mm and 12-20 mm, respectively.

    Abstract: This invention relates to a heat source comprising a mixture of metal carbide, metal nitride and metal which undergo a staged ignition process, particularly useful in smoking articles.     Abstract: PURPOSE: To make automatic price labeling for a cigarette dual unit carton having an indicia label easy by manufacturing a unit through overlapping two sub-cartons having the same shape in a connected state with a slit, and by sticking the indicia label on the slit portion to extend over both sub-cartons so as to be unable to read when both sub-cartons are separated. CONSTITUTION: Substantially the same and separate cigarette cartons 30, 32 are formed in a laminated state. The cartons 30, 32 are connected by a slit 31 to form a carton sheet, and make a dual unit by folding the carton sheets so that the external front face wall 10 overlaps. A label 42 having a coded indicia on a portion corresponding to the slit 31 is stuck on cartons 30, 32 extending over both. When two cartons 30, 32 are separated, the indicia becomes unreadable.

    Abstract: PURPOSE: To obtain an improved cigarette carton which resembles to a hinge lid cigarette carton as a whole and functions in a similar manner. CONSTITUTION: This carton box is made of an integral blank 100 containing innerframe panels E, F, G and outer member panels A-D, and these panels are all connected side to side. When this blank is folded for making a carton box, the innerframe panels E, F, G are positioned inside the corresponding outer member panels A-D. The blank 100 includes a top cover panel B2 and a bottom cover panel B3, and these can be closed for closing the carton box after the innerframe panels E, F, G are folded to the inside of the outer member panels A-D. The carton box opens by pivoting the upper part of the outer member upward and backward. Though the innerframe somewhat retards this lid movement, it contributes to maintaining the closed state of the lid.
