Abstract:
PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a composition and a method for stabilizing transthyretin, inhibiting misfolding of transthyretin and treating amyloidosis related thereto. SOLUTION: Kinetic stabilization of the native state of transthyretin is an effective mechanism for preventing misfolding of a protein. Misfolding of transthyretin plays an important role in transthyretin amyloid diseases, and therefore such misfolding is used as the effective treating or preventive method for such a disease. The treatment method, a screening method and a specific transthyretin stabilizing compound are provided. COPYRIGHT: (C)2011,JPO&INPIT
Abstract:
PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a D-enzyme that has ability to catalyze the reaction of a chiral substrate, and to provide a method for producing a chirally pure chemical substance. SOLUTION: The subject D-enzyme compositions described comprises each an amino acid residue sequence that defines a polypeptide enabling to catalyze an enzymatic reaction. The D-enzyme has an amino acid residue sequence consisting essentially of a D-amino acid. The D-enzyme provides an effective method for producing the chirally pure chemical substance used for reagent grade industrial chemicals and pharmaceutically pure medicaments. In addition, the D enzyme can be used in combination with its L-enzyme counterpart in co-crystallation admixtures to form racemic crystals for determining crystallographic structures using X-ray diffraction data. The D-enzyme may be employed in identifying chiral inhibitors by using in the screening of a natural product library. COPYRIGHT: (C)2005,JPO&NCIPI
Abstract:
PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a receptor-induced binding site and an antibody thereto. SOLUTION: This receptor-induced binding site comprises a polypeptide composed of up to 40 amino acid residues including an amino acid residue sequence having the formula: Ly-Thr-Arg-Trp-Tyr-Ser-Met-Lys-Lys-Thr-Thr-Met- Lys or a polyupeptide composed of up to 20 amino acid residues corresponding to the formula: Asn-Gly-Ile-Ile-Trp-Ala-Thr-Trp-Lys-Thr-Arg-Trp-Tyr-Ser-Met- Lys-Lys-Lys-Thr-Thr. The antibody recognizing the receptor-induced binding site as an epitope is formed. Furthermore, the receptor-induced binding site is used to detect the antibody.

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide the subject new protein and relating polypeptide composed of essentially pure alveolus surface-active protein human SP18 monomer protein and useful e.g. for the production of a synthetic alveolus surface-active protein for the treatment of respiratory distress syndrome of the newborn, etc. SOLUTION: This protein is an essentially pure new alveolus surface-active protein human SP18 monomer protein useful e.g. as an active component of a composition containing a synthetic alveolus surface-active protein for the effective surface-active substance substitution treatment of respiratory distress syndrome(RDS) of the newborn, etc., caused by the deficiency of alveolus surface active substance. The surface-active protein can be produced by separating a human alveolus surface active substance from whole-phase semimembranous liquid, subjecting to anion exchange column treatment in a tris-EDTA buffer containing 1% n-octyl-β-D-glucopyranoside by conventional method, extracting the fraction passed through the column with 2:1 chloroform : methanol, distilling out the solvent from the extract and fractionating the extracted component by high-speed liquid chromatography.

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide inhibitors of focal adhesion kinase.SOLUTION: The invention provides inhibitors of focal adhesion kinase, an enzyme involved in the attachment of the cytoskeleton of a cell to an extracellular matrix, which has been implicated in processes such as cell migration, cell proliferation, and cell survival. The inhibitors are derivatives of a 5-substituted 2,4-diaminopyridine, where the substituents are as defined herein. The invention also provides a method of using the inhibitors in treatment of cancer, and methods of preparation of the inhibitors by use of coupling reactions.
Abstract:
PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide methods for treating disorders associated with metabotropic glutamate receptors (mGluRs) by simultaneously inhibiting at least two mGluRs belonging to at least two different groups.SOLUTION: There are provided methods for treating disorders associated with mGlu receptors 2, 3, and 5, such as nicotine addiction, cocaine addiction, and depression, the method including administering to a subject in need thereof an effective amount of at least one antagonist which modulates mGluR2, mGluR3, and mGluR5.
Abstract:
PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide methods to diagnose cancer and to decrease metastasis by cancer cells in a mammal, such as a human, especially to provide the use of a tumor marker protein to create antibodies that can be used to detect increased production of the protein in a cell, and use of the antibodies to decrease metastasis by cancer cells that produce the tumor marker protein.SOLUTION: A monoclonal antibody specifically binds with a soluble form of glycosylated protein comprising a specific amino acid sequence and is used for treating metastatic tumors.
