    Abstract: A process for the continuous manufacture of linear, high molecular weight, polybutylene terephthalates, in which dimethyl terephthalate is trans-esterified with 1,4-butanediol, if desired in the presence of up to 40 mole% of other starting materials which form linear polyesters, in the molar ratio of from 1:1.2 to 1:1.5, in a plurality of successive stages at temperatures rising from 160 to 230.degree.C, the mixture thus obtained is passed, at from 230 to 270.degree.C and from 2 mm Hg to 20 mm Hg, upward through a bundle of stationary heated tubes, and immediately thereafter through a hold tank, with the proviso that the volume of the hold tank is at least 1/4 and at most 2.5 times the volume of the tube bundle and the mean residence time in the tube bundle and hold tank together is from 10 to 60 minutes, and the precondensate thus obtained is polycondensed at from 240 to 260.degree.C and from 0.1 to 2 mm Hg, with continuous formation of thin films. The polybutylene terephthalates manufactured by the above process may be used for the manufacture of products such as fibers, films, sheeting and injection moldings.

Laurolactam produced by the rearrangement of cyclodecanone oxime or a salt thereof which has been obtained by reaction of cyclododecane with NOCl or with NO and Cl 2 , in the presence or absence of HCl is purified by treatment at temperatures above 160‹ C. with an aqueous solution of an alkali metal hydroxide and the thus treated laurolactam is subjected to a water treatment and then to fractional distillation. The laurolactam may undergo the water treatment in the molten form, as a finely-divided solid, or may be dissolved in an inert organic solvent which is immiscible with water, e.g. benzene, toluene, xylene, CH 2 Cl 2 , CHCl 3 , CCl 4 or 1,2-dichloroethane. The hydroxide is preferably used in amounts of 2 to 3% by weight of the lactam and as a 50% by weight aqueous solution. The process may be carried out continuously.

    Abstract: A 1-aminomethyl-2-aminopropylcyclohexane is used to cure a polyepoxide having more than one 1,2-epoxy group at 20 DEG to 200 DEG C. The polyepoxide may be a glycidyl ether of a polyhydric phenol or polyhydric alcohol. The hardening agent may have one or more substituents, e.g. cycloaliphatic, aliphatic-aromatic or aromatic hydrocarbon radicals; it may be used at 5-50 parts by weight per 100 parts of polyepoxide A filler, pigment dye or plasticizer may be incorporated into the mixture prior to curing. Urea formaldehyde or phenol formaldehyde resins may also be present.
