Abstract: The invention relates to a catalyst which contains copper and which is provided for decomposing N2O. The inventive catalyst contains a compound of general formula M x Al2O4, in which M represents Cu or mixture s of Cu with Zn and/or Mg, wherein x has a value ranging from 0.8 to 1.5. The invention also relates to a method in which the inventi ve catalyst is used in order to catalytically decompose N2O which is pure or which is contained in a gas mixture at an increased temperature.

Abstract: The invention relates to a process for preparing a catalyst support, in which zirconium dioxide powder is mixed with a binder, if desired a pore former, if desired an acid, water and, if desired, further additives to give a kneadable composition and the composition is homogenized, shaped to produce shaped bodies, dried and calcined, wherein the binder is a monomeric, oligomeric or polymeric organosilicon compound. Suitable binders are monomeric, oligomeric or polymeric silanes, alkoxysilanes, aryloxysilanes, acryloxysilanes, oximinosilanes, halosilanes, aminoxysilanes, aminosilanes, amidosilanes, silazanes or silicones. The invention also provides the catalyst support which has been prepared in this way, a catalyst comprising the support and its use as dehydrogenation catalyst.

Abstract: The catalyst is in tablet form having a diameter of 0.8-5 mm and a height of 0.8-5 mm. The catalyst is prepared by: (a) precipitating a solution of zinc and aluminium salts (Zn:Al ratio is 3-1:1-3) with and alkali carbonate or hydroxide solution at a pH of 5-12 and a temperature of 20-100 degrees C; (b) removing and washing the precipitate to remove alkali ions; (c) drying the precipitate; (d) calcining the precipitate at 250-800 degrees C to a mixed oxide; (e) dispersing the mixed oxide in an acid solution of copper and zinc salts (Cu:Zn ratio is 1-20:5-1); (f) precipitating the dispersion with an alkali carbonate or hydroxide solution at a pH of 6-9 and a temperature of 20-100 degrees C; and (g) repeating steps (b) to (d). The solutions in steps (a) and/or (e) additionally contain oxides of platinum group metals, groups 5, 11 and the lanthanides.
