Said polycarbonates are produced by polymerizing carbon dioxide with at least one epoxide while using at least one catalyst selected from the group consisting of zinc carboxylates and multi−metal cyanide compounds. The invention is characterized in that the catalyst is introduced in anhydrous form, and the catalyst is firstly brought into contact with at least a partial quantity of the carbon dioxide before the epoxide is added.
