    Abstract: Pyrazol derivatives having general formula (I) are disclosed, as well as their use as nitrification inhibitors. In said formula (I): residues R1, R2, R3 and R4 may be substituted once or twice by halogen and/or hydroxyl; the residues R1, R2 and R3 stand for halogen, nitro, hydrogen, C1-C20-alkyl, C3-C8-cycloalkyl, C5-C20-aryl or alkyl aryl; and R4 may stand for (a) a residue R4a of the formula (II), in which R5 and R6 stand for hydrogen, C1-C20-alkyl optionally substituted once or twice by halogen and/or hydroxyl, a carboxyl group, a carboxymethyl group or a functional derivative of both latter groups, and R7 stands for a carboxyl residue or a carboxy-(C1-C3-alkyl) residue or for a functional derivative of said groups, or R4 may stand for (b) a residue R4b having the formula (III), in which R8 and R9 stand for hydrogen, C1-C20-alkyl, C2-C8-cycloalkyl, C5-C20-aryl or alkyl aryl, these residues being optionally substituted once or twice by halogen, and R10 stands for hydrogen or a poly (C2-C4-alkylene oxide) residue whose terminal hydroxyl group may be etherified with an aliphatic C1-C10 alcohol or esterified with a C1-C10 carboxylic acid.

    Abstract: Disclosed is the use as nitrification inhibitors of pyrazole derivatives of formula (I), or salts thereof, in which the groups R1-R4 have the following meanings: R1, R2 and R3 represent C1-C20 alkyl, C3-C8 cycloalkyl, C5-C20 aryl or alkyl aryl (these four groups can be singly or doubly substituted by a halogen and/or hydroxyl), and halogen, nitro or hydrogen; and R4 represents either (a) C6-C20 alkyl, one or two hydrogen atoms being optionally substituted by a halogen; or (b) C1-C20 alkyl. In the latter case, 1-4 hydrogen atoms can be substituted by a group of formula (II), in which R5, R6, and R7 represent C1-C20 alkyl, C3-C8 cycloalkyl, C5-C20 aryl or alkyl aryl (these four groups can be singly or doubly substituted by a halogen and/or hydroxyl), as well as halogen, nitro or hydrogen; and 1 or two hydrogen atoms are optionally substituted by a halogen.

    Abstract: Process for the continuous preparation of an amine by reaction of a primary or secondary alcohol, aldehyde and/or ketone with hydrogen and a nitrogen compound selected from the group consisting of ammonia, primary and secondary amines at a temperature in the range from 60 to 300° C. in the presence of a copper-containing catalyst, wherein the catalytically active composition of the catalyst prior to reduction with hydrogen comprises from 20 to 85% by weight of aluminum oxide (Al 2 O 3 ), zirconium dioxide (ZrO 2 ), titanium dioxide (TiO 2 ) and/or silicon dioxide (SiO 2 ), from 1 to 70% by weight of oxygen-containing compounds of copper, calculated as CuO, from 0 to 50% by weight of oxygen-containing compounds of magnesium, calculated as MgO, oxygen-containing compounds of chromium, calculated as Cr 2 O 3 , oxygen-containing compounds of zinc, calculated as ZnO, oxygen-containing compounds of barium, calculated as BaO, and/or oxygen-containing compounds of calcium, calculated as CaO, and less than 30% by weight of oxygen-containing compounds of nickel, calculated as NiO, based on the oxygen-containing compounds of copper, calculated as CuO, and the reaction is carried out isothermally in the gas phase in a tube reactor.

    Abstract: The use of inorganic or organic poly acids is claimed for treating mineral fertilisers containing a nitrification inhibitor. The use of compounds of formula (I) is claimed as nitrification inhibitors. R1 = H, halo or 1-4C alkyl; R2 = 1-4C alkyl; R3 = H or CH2OH, and when R3 = H, the compound may be converted to a phosphoric acid salt. A mineral fertiliser containing a poly acid and optionally (I) is also claimed. 3,4-dimethylpyrazole (Ia), 4-chloro-3-methyl-pyrazole (Ib), N-hydroxymethyl-3,4-dimethylpyrazole (Ic), N-hydroxymethyl-4-chloro-3-methylpyrazole (Id), acid addition salts of (Ic) and (Id), and mixtures of two or more of (Ia)-(d) are new.
