    Abstract: The invention relates to a foam ply based on a biodegradable polyester mixture, comprising i) from 70 to 5% by weight, based on the total weight of components i to ii, of at least one polyester based on aliphatic and aromatic dicarboxylic acids and on aliphatic dihydroxy compounds, and ii) from 30 to 95% by weight, based on the total weight of components i to ii, of poly-lactide, and iii) from 0.1 to 5% by weight, based on the total weight of components i to ii, of a copolymer which comprises epoxy groups and is based on styrene, acrylates, and/or methacrylates, and iv) from 0.5 to 15% by weight of additives; and v) from 0 to 50% by weight of inorganic or organic filler, and also to processes for production of the foam ply mentioned, and to the use of the foam plies for the production of moldings and foils, and also to moldings and foils comprising the foam plies mentioned.

    Abstract: Disclosed is a bead material composed of expandable polystyrene (EPS), coated with (A) one or more insecticides, preferably selected from the group consisting of fipronil, hydramethylnon and chlorfenapyr;(B) one or more glycerol esters,(C) optionally one or more polymeric binders selected from acrylate resins, aqueous polymer dispersions, or waxes; and(D) optionally further additives. A process for the production of the molding by press molding is also disclosed, wherein: (I) an EPS bead material is charged to a gas-permeable mold; (II) within the closed mold, the charge of bead material is press-molded to give a molding, with volume reduction;(III) the molding is hardened by controlling its temperature to from 20 to 100 Deg. C; and (IV) the resultant molding is removed from the mold. Further disclosed is another process for the production of the molding according by foaming-to completion, wherein: (I) an EPS bead material is charged to a gastight mold;(II) within the closed mold, the charge of bead material is foamed to completion by controlling its temperature to from 60 to 120 Deg. C, whereupon the bead material fuses to give the molding; and(III) the resultant molding is removed from the mold. These beads are suitable for making moldings that are used as insulation material in the construction industry and these mouldings are also suitable for the protection of buildings against termites.
