Abstract: Curable mixtures containing a) a polyepoxide compound having on average more than one epoxide group per molecule andb) a diamine which contains hydroxyl groups and has the general formula Ia or Ib (Ia) (Ib) in which R is an alkyl radical having 2 to 16 C atoms, an aralkylene radical having 7 to 12 C atoms, an arylene radical having 6 to 16 C atoms, a cycloaliphatic radical having 6 to 12 C atoms or a radical containing at least one N, O or S atom in chains or cyclic groups, and R1 is a hydrogen atom, a hydrogen atom or an alkyl group having 1 to 4 C atoms and in which, in formula Ia, the two OH groups are in the orthoposition or para-position relative to the methylene group, there being, in the mixtures, 0.5 to 1.5 equivalents of active hydrogen atoms, which are bonded to nitrogen and oxygen in the diamine containing hydroxyl groups, per 1 equivalent of epoxide groups.

Abstract: 1449380 3 - Amino - 4 - aminomethylpyrrolidines CIBA-GEIGY AG 11 July 1974 [25 July 1973] 30864/74 Heading C2C Novel compounds of Formula I wherein R 1 represents C 1-12 alkyl, a C 6 cycloaliphatic radical, benzyl, optionally substituted phenyl or 3-aminopropyl; R 2 represents hydrogen, C 1-12 alkyl or optionally substituted phenyl and R 3 represents hydrogen or C 1-6 alkyl; or R 2 and R 3 together represent a pentamethylene radical, are obtained by catalytic hydrogenation, at 20-150‹ C. in the presence of a solvent (e.g. ethanol), of the corresponding compound of Formula II R 1 to R 3 being defined as above with the addition that R 1 is #-cyanoethyl, separating the product from the catalyst and solvent, and, if desired, distilling the product. The hydrogenation is preferably carried out in the presence of ammonia as solvent and under superatmospheric pressure. Catalysts specified are Raney nickel, Raney cobalt, Pt, Pd, Rh and Ru. The starting materials of Formula II are prepared by the Thorpe-Ziegler cyclization of corresponding dinitriles in the presence of a basic catalyst and tertiary butanol. The pyrrolidines of Formula I are curing agents for epoxide resins.
