Abstract: The invention relates to a process for preparing a catalyst which has a catalytically-active coating of high surface area finely-divided materials and catalytically-active components on an inert support structure. A powder mixture of the finely-divided materials used is impregnated with a solution of precursor compounds of the catalytically-active components. By suitable combination of the finely-divided materials and the precursor compounds, and appropriate management of the impregnation process, a highly dispersed deposition and adsorption of the catalytically-active components is ensured on the finely-divided materials. Then an aqueous coating dispersion is produced using the impregnated powder mixture, and the support structure is coated therewith. The coating is then dried and calcined.

Abstract: The invention relates to a catalyst for purifying the exhaust gases from diesel engines. The catalyst contains a zeolite mixture of several zeolites with different moduli and platinum group metals as well as further metal oxides from the group comprising aluminium silicate, aluminium oxide and titanium oxide, wherein the aluminium silicate has a ratio by weight of silicon dioxide to aluminium oxide of 0.005 to 1 and the platinum group metals are deposited on only the further metal oxides.

Abstract: Storage material comprises magnesium oxide and aluminum oxide as a magnesium aluminate spinel in a mole ratio of 1.1:1. The magnesium oxide present in a stoichiometric excess is homogeneously dispersed in the storage material in a highly dispersed form. An Independent claim is also included for the production of the storage material comprising calcining a magnesium/aluminum hydrotalcite having a magnesium oxide/aluminum oxide mole ratio of 1.1:1 at a temperature of 400-600o C for 1-10 hours.

Abstract: A diesel engine gas catalyst has a zeolite with aluminum oxide or silicon dioxide, or titanium dioxide, or zirconium dioxide and aluminum silicate. The catalyst also has either platinum or rhodium and iridium. The noble metal has a median oxidation level of +2.5, with more than 3 metal ligands, and less than three oxygen ligands. Crystalline substances of average particle size 1-6 nm are present on the surface of the zeolite and substrate oxides. An Independent claim is also included for the production of the diesel exhaust catalytic converter. The ratio of the substrate oxide to the zeolite is 10:1-2:1. The mass ratio of the noble metal on the zeolite to the noble metals on the substrate oxide is 1:100-1:10. The noble metals are present in a concentration of 0.05-10 wt.% w.r.t the overall weight of the catalyst.

The catalyst is characterised in that the atoms of the noble metals have a mean oxidation number of less than +2.5, on average more than 3 metal ligands and less than 3 oxygen ligan ds and are present on the zeolites and carrier oxides in the form of crystallites havin g a mean particle size of from 1 to 6 nm.

Independent claims are include for the production of storage material and use of nitrogen oxide-storage.
