Abstract: An internal combustion engine (2) exhaust gas purification device (1) is operated predominantly using lean air-fuel ratios. It has a sulfur filter (5) followed by a NOx storage catalyzer (6). Process for operating an internal combustion engine exhaust gas purification device comprises:- (a) storing the nitrogen oxides in the exhaust gas on a storage catalyst and the sulfur oxides on the sulfur trap at air factors of above 1 and exhaust gas temperatures TK within the activity window DELTA TNOX, in which the exhaust gas temperature TS is smaller than the desulfurization temperature TS DeSOx, and cyclically reducing the air factor of the exhaust gas below 1 to release the stored nitrogen oxides; and (b) desulfurizing the sulfur trap by increasing the exhaust gas temperature TS above the desulfurization temperature of the sulfur trap and reducing the air factor of the exhaust gas below 1 and cyclically repeating steps (a) and (b).

Abstract: The invention relates to a catalyst for purifying the exhaust gases from diesel engines. The catalyst contains a zeolite mixture of several zeolites with different moduli and platinum group metals as well as further metal oxides from the group comprising aluminium silicate, aluminium oxide and titanium oxide, wherein the aluminium silicate has a ratio by weight of silicon dioxide to aluminium oxide of 0.005 to 1 and the platinum group metals are deposited on only the further metal oxides.

El catalizador contiene una mezcla de zeolitas de varias zeolitas con diferentes modulos y metales del grupo del platino así como otros oxidos de metales del grupo silicato de aluminio, oxido de aluminio y oxido de titanio, donde el silicato de aluminio presenta una relacion de pesos de dioxido de silicio/oxido de aluminio de 0,005 a 1 y los metales del grupo del platino solo están incrustados sobre los oxidos de metales adicionales.
