    Abstract: A precipitate of silica having the following physicochemical parameters: BET surface area: from 35 to 350 m /g Ratio of BET/CTAB surface area: from 0.8 to 1.1 Pore volume PV: from 1.6 to 3.4 ml/g Silanol group density (V2 = consumption of NaOH): from 6 to 20 ml Mean aggregate size: from 250 to 1500 nm CTAB surface area: from 30 to 350 m /g DBP number: from 150 to 300 ml/100 g V2/V1 according to Hg porosimetry: from 0.19 to 0.46 DBP/CTAB: from 1.2 to 2.4 is prepared by reacting alkali metal silicate with mineral acids at temperatures of from 60 to 95 DEG C while maintaining a pH of from 7.5 to 10.5 with continuous stirring, continuing the reaction to a solids concentration in the precipitate suspension of from 80 to 120 g/l, adjusting the pH to a value equal to or less than 5, filtering off, washing, drying and, if desired, milling or granulating the precipitated silica. The precipitated silica is used as filler in vulcanisable rubber mixtures and vulcanisates.

    Abstract: A process for the production of a precipitated silica which has a BET surface area of 10-130 m2/g, a CTAB surface area of 10-70 m2/g, an average particle diameter of 5-20 μm, a Cu abrasion value in a 10% glycerol dispersion of 4-50 mg and thickening behavior in a CMC solution (20% dispersion) of 300-3500 mPa.s, which is characterize in simultaneously adding alkali silicate (weight modulus SiO2:alkali oxide = 2.5-3.9:1) and a mineral acid to an initial amount of water which has been adjusted to a pH value of 7.0 to 9.9 or 10.0 to 10.7 by the addition of water glass, holding the pH value constant between 7.0 and 9.9 or 10.0 to 10.7 during addition, in which the initial precipitation temperature is 50-90℃ and an increase in viscosity occurs after at most 25% of the duration of precipitation, adjusting the pH value to ≦̸6, once a pH of 7.0 to 9.9 at the start of precipitation and a silica content of greater than 120 g/l or a pH of 10.0 to 10.7 at the start of precipitation and a silica content of greater than 150 g/l has been reached, separating the solid by filtration, washing, drying and grinding it to form a filtration cake or fluidized filtration cake.

The precipitated silica is then filtered off, washed, dried and milled using a pendulum roller mill or a jet mill. Because of their abrasiveness, the precipitated silicas can be employed as cleansing and abrasive agents and, in the case of the jet-milled product, also as a polishing agent, abrasive and thickener in toothpastes.

Wt.-% 0.3-50 -Sieve residue according -to Mocker 45 mu m -(DIN 53 580) Wt.-% 0.2 - They are prepared by adding a cerium (IV) salt solution to the original precipitated suspension of a precipitated silica. The compositions produced with the cerium containing precipitated silica hardenable elastomers based on diorganopolysiloxanes exhibit excellent heat stability. Additionally, the cerium containing precipitated silica acts as a fire retardant agent.
