    Abstract: Hydrophobic, pyrogenically produced silica having a tamped density of 55 to 200 g/l is produced by hydrophobising pyrogenically produced silica and then compacting it. Said silica may be used for the production of dispersions. The silica may made hydrophobic by treatment with halogen-free silanes.

    Abstract: Doped zinc oxide powder comprises doping component (0.005-15 wt.%). The doping component comprises oxides of aluminum, gallium, indium, germanium, tin, and/or silicon. The zinc oxide powder is in the form of aggregates having a mean maximum diameter of 30-300 nm. An Independent claim is also included for preparation of zinc oxide powder by treating zinc powder and doping agent(s) in vaporization, nucleation, oxidation, and quenching zones. In the vaporization zone, zinc powder is vaporized in a flame of air and/or oxygen and combustion gas under reaction conditions that oxidation of zinc does not occur. The hot reaction mixture from the vaporization zone containing zinc vapor, water vapor (reaction product of flame reaction), and optionally excess combustion gas passes through the nucleation zone and is cooled to 500-900degreesC or is cooled using inert gas, and an aerosol containing doping agent(s) is fed in an amount that corresponds to the desired amount of doping agent in the zinc oxide powder. In the oxidation zone, the mixture from the nucleation zone is oxidized with air and/or oxygen. In the quenching zone, the oxidation mixture is cooled to less than 400degreesC by addition of cooling gas.
