Abstract: CO and hydrocarbons, e.g. combustion engine exhaust gases, are oxidised at 150-800 (200-700 esp. 300-600)degrees C to CO2 + H2O, in the presence of a high strength catalyst on a support composed of a mixt. of aluminates of Cu, Mn and Ni deposited on a pure Al2O3 support, there being 10-45 (20-35) wt.% aluminates. Cu:Mn:Ni wt. ratio is opt. (2-4):(1-2):(0.1-1). There is opt. 0.5-10 (1-7) wt.% Ce, deposited on the support as its oxide. Initiation temp. is low, and the reaction is unaffected by O2 concn. in the gas mixt.

Abstract: The disclosure relates to a process for making acetic anhydride and/or acetic acid and/or ethylidene diacetate by reacting methyl acetate and/or dimethylether with carbon monoxide or mixtures of carbon monoxide and hydrogen at temperatures of 50 to 300.degree.C, under reaction pressures of 1 to 500 bars and in the presence of a catalyst system. The disclosure provides more particularly for the catalyst system to consist of rhenium or its compounds; an organohalogen compound, halogen or hydrogen halide; further carbonyl-yielding common metals or their compounds, if desired; tertiary or quaternary organic nitrogen, phosphorus arsenic or antimony compounds, if desired; and alkali metal acetate or alkali metal compounds which undergo conversion to alkali metal acetate under the reaction conditions, if desired.

Abstract: PROCESS FOR MAKING OLEFINS The disclosure relates to a process for making C2 to C4-olefins from gas mixtures containing methanol, dimethylether and optionally steam in the presence of catalysts at temperatures of 250 to 500.degree.C under pressure of 0.1 to 6 bars, unreacted feed material being recycled. To this end,the disclosure provides for a mixture containing methanol and water in a ratio by volume of 1 : (O up to 2) to be evaporated and reacted in a reactor having the catalyst placed therein; for the reaction gases to be partially condensed by cooling them and separated, in a separator,into three phases; for the oil phase consisting of higher aliphates and aromates to be removed and for the remaining aqueous phase and gas phase to be water-scrubbed in a scrubbing column under pressures of 1 to 40 bars; for a gaseous hydrocarbon mixture containing predominantly C2 to C4 olefins to be removed overhead and separated into its components; for an aqueous phase containing unreacted methanol-and intermediarily formed dimethylether to be removed from the base portion of the scrubbing column; for the methanol and dimethylether to be distilled off in a stripping column and recycled into the reactor; and for the water to be removed from the base portion of the stripping column.
