Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a composition for dyeing keratinous fiber having high coloring power and capable of dyeing it in light color shade and reducing irritating odor and cutaneous irritation, and to obtain a kit for dyeing keratinous fiber. Abstract: PURPOSE: To obtain the subject ester excellent in waving function and the durability of waves, causing little deteriorating effect on damaged hair, and having low degree smell, and excellent compatibility and safety when used as a reducing agent for a permanent-wave treatment composition consisting of a mixture of specific isomers. CONSTITUTION: A mixture of isomers consisting of 3- hydroxybutylmonothioglycolate of formula I and 3-hydroxy-l- methylpropylmonothioglycolate of formula II. The mixture is obtained e.g. by reacting a thioglycolic acid or a thioglycolic acid alkyl ester of formula III (R is H or a 1-4C alkyl) with 1,3-butanediol of formula IV. The reaction is preferably carried out by using a compound of formula IV in an amount of 1.5-3 equivalents based on a compound of formula III at 80-180 deg.C while the generated water is being removed. Further, a compounding ratio of the mixture to a permanent-wave treatment composition is preferably 5-5-wt.%.

Abstract: PURPOSE:To produce a keratin fiber-treating agent which comprises, in a two pack type, a mixture containing aromatic compounds bearing sulfate, phosphate or phosphonate groups or the like and the other mixture containing polyvalent metal salts, and can give the fibers a durative style as their appropriate strength and elasticity are maintained. CONSTITUTION:A treating agent containing an aromatic compound bearing one to five aromatic 5 to 7 membered rings, sulfate, sulfonate, phosphate, phosphonate or carboxyl groups and another treating agent containing polyvalent metal compound such as magnesium chloride, magnesium nitrate are used to provide the objective keratin fiber-treating agent. As an above-described aromatic compound, a compound of the formula (at least one of A to A is sulfuric, sulfonic, phosphoric, phosphonic or carboxylic group or their slats and the others are H, halogen, hydroxyl alkyl or the like) is preferably cited. They are preferably combined with an oxidizing agent and a reducing agent. The treatment agent enhances to give hairs curls, waves and straight hair lines and keep the form for hours.

SOLUTION: This polyalkylene glycol monothiolactate of formula I [R is ethylene or propylene; (n) is an integer of 2-4], e.g. diethylene glycol monothiolactate. The compound of formula I is obtained by reacting 1mol equiv. thiolactic acid or alkyl thiolactate of formula II (R is H or a 1-4C alkyl) with preferably 1.5-3mol equiv. polyalkylene glycol of formula III at 80-180 deg.C. Water produced at this time is preferably removed. Furthermore, the compound of formula I as a reducing agent in a blended amount of 5-30% is mixed in an aqueous medium and the pH is preferably regulated to 6.5-8 to afford an excellent permanent waving composition.
