    Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain the subject cosmetic composition that gives the hair high levels of powdery dryness and moist feeling and develops good combing properties on, after and in both cases of hair washing. SOLUTION: This cosmetic composition includes a polyether polymer having a structural units represented by the formula (R1-R3 are each a 1-20C alkyl, alkenyl, cycloalkenyl or the like; Y is an N atom, P atom; X is an anion), preferably with a weight-average molecular weight of 500-5,000,000. In an embodiment, the polymer is prepared by allowing poly(epichlorohydrin) rubber to react with a compound of the formula: NR1R2R3 in an solvent as methanol at 80-150 deg.C and the resultant polymer is added to the objective cosmetic composition in an amount of 0.001-20 wt.% based on the composition.

    Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a hydrophilic polymer comprising specified structural units, which when applied to the skin, shows excellent moistening effect, touch, etc., and exhibits persistent moistening effect for a long time even when it is wetted with sweat or water or even after it is washed away with water and to obtain a humectant containing the same. SOLUTION: This polymer comprises structural units represented by the formula (wherein R and R are each a 1-10C alkyl which may be substituted with hydroxyl; and Y is a 1-10C divalent hydrocarbon group which may be substituted with hydroxyl) and having a weight-average molecular weight of 500-100,000. This is produced for example by the following process: glycidyl methacrylate is polymerized in the presence of a polymerization initiator in a solvent to obtain polyglycidyl methacrylate, and this is reacted with a secondary amine to obtain a polyaminoalkyl methacrylate, and, the product is reacted with an ω-halocarboxylate. The polymer may be a homopolymer or a copolymer.

    Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain the subject polymer having excellent moisture retaining properties in application to skin and hair, continuing its effects for many hours, having excellent touch, useful as a humectant for various cosmetics and detergent compositions, by including a specific structural unit. SOLUTION: This hydrophilic polymer comprises structural units of formula I and formula II [R and R are each H or methyl; R and R are each a (substituted) 1-10C alkyl; Y and Z are each NH or 0; Y is a (substituted) 1-10C bifunctional saturated hydrocarbon; (p) is 2-5; A is a 2-4C alkylene] and has 500-500,000 weight-average molecular weight. The ratio of the composition of the structural units of formula I and formula II by weight is preferably 10:90 to 90:10. The polymer is obtained by polymerizing monomers of formula III and formula IV in the presence of a polymerization solvent (e.g. water, methanol, ethanol, etc.), by using a radical polymerization initiator (e.g. an azo-based radical initiator) preferably at 40-80 deg.C.
