Abstract: The magnetic recording medium comprises a substrate (A) with magnetic layer(s) (B) and an upper lubricant layer (C) consisting of a perfluoro-polyether of formula (I) with a mean mol.wt. (Mn) of 800-30,000. CF3O-(CF2O)m-(CF2CF2O)n-CF3 (I) In (I): m = 2 or more (i.e. a whole number); n = 1 or more (i.e. a whole number); and m/n = more than 2 to less than 7. Also claimed is: (i) a magnetic recording medium as above, in which layer (C) consists of a layer (c1) contg. fixed lubricant mols. (i.e. fixed to the surface of the underlying layer) and a layer (c2) contg. free lubricant mols. (i.e. not fixed to the surface of the underlying layer), both layers (c1) and (c2) being produced by gas-phase polymerisation; and (ii) the prodn. of the medium, in which layers (c1 and c2) are synthesised by gas-phase polymerisation to form an upper lubricant layer (C).

Abstract: An electroplated composite coating of the invention which comprises 70 to 99.9 percent by weigth of zinc or an alloy of zinc and 0.1 to 30 percent by weight of an organic polymer, said polymer being soluble in water and anionic, carionic or amphoteric, having been dispersed in the electroplated crystal grains or gain bound aries of the zinc and/or the zinc alloy, having a weight-average molecular weight of 1,000 to 1,000,000, said polymer having at least one aromatic ring and 1 to 10 hydroxyl group on the average per a molecular weight unit of 500, said polymer containing therein a polar group selected from the group consisting of: sulfo group, a phosphoric acid group of the formula -O-PO(OR)2, a phosphorous acid group of the formula -O-PO(OR)2, a phosphonic acid group of the formula -PO(OR)2, a phosphonous acid group of the formula -P(OR)2, a phosphinic acid group of the formula -RPO(OR), a phosphinous acid group of the formula -PR(OR), a tertiary amino group of the formula -NR1R2, a quaternary ammonium group of the formula -NR1R2R3.X and carboxyl group having the formula -COOH, in which R is hydrogen or a hydrocarbon group and R1, R2 and R3 each are a straight or branched alkyl, a straight or branched hydroxyalkyl, an aromatic ring and X is a counter anion, the sulfo group being contained therein on the average in an amount of 0.1 to 4 groups per a molecular weight unit of 500, the other groups being contained therein on the average in a total amount of 0.1 to 5 groups per a molecular weight of 500, the main chain briding between two aromatic rings being at least one of C-C linkage, C=C linkage and an ether linkage (C-O-C).

Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain the subject composition as a processing aid, capable of polishing a surface at a high speed without leaving defects on the surface by incorporating an organic compound having a specific molecular structure. SOLUTION: This composition comprises at least (A) a processing aid and (B) water, wherein the component A is a water-soluble or water-dispersible organic compound having a weight-average molecular weight of 500 to 1,000,000 and poly (>=3) nuclear condensed ring. It is preferable that the composition contains 0.01 to 30wt.% of the component A, the compound having 0.1 to 4 of at least one of sulfonic group, carboxyl group, phosphoric group and the like on the average per 500 units of the molecular weight, e.g. condensed sodium tannate sulfonate.

SOLUTION: This processing auxiliary composition contains at least a processing auxiliary and water, and the auxiliary consists of a water-soluble or water-dispersible organic macromolecule, and the organic macromolecule has a weight average molecular weight of 500 to 1,000,000, and is a copolymer obtained by polymerizing (A) a monomer expressed by formula I (R1 ) and R2 are each H or methyl group; (m1 ) is 0 to 2; AO is a 2-3C oxyalkylene; (n) is 1 to 300; X is H or a 1-3C alkyl) and (B) at least one kind of monomer selected from compounds expressed by respective formulas II and III (R3 to R5 are each H, methyl group, etc.; R6 is H or methyl group; M1 , M2 and Y are each H, an alkali metal, etc.; (m2 ) is 0 to 2). The objective composition preferably contains 0.01 to 30wt.% of the auxiliary.
