Abstract: PURPOSE:To make favorable auxiliary discharge generable at an intersection zone over almost overall length of a cathode, by installing a plural pair of both auxiliary cathodes and anodes forming an auxiliary discharge cell in a way of connecting each an auxiliary cathode bus adjacent to a cathode group and an auxiliary anode bus going along the said bus, in addition. CONSTITUTION:A discharge tube is provided with a beltlike auxiliary cathode bus 16 going along the first strip cathode 3a and a beltlike auxiliary anode bus 17 going along the said bus 16 on the inner surface of a glass plate 2 at the backside. Also, it is provided with auxiliary cathodes 19a and 19b connected to the auxiliary cathode bus 16 via resistance elements 18a and 18b. And, auxiliary anodes 21a and 21b connected to the auxiliary anode bus 17 via resistance elements 20a and 20b are installed in and around these auxiliary cathodes 19a and 19b. When these cathodes 19a and 19b are formed into semicircular arc form and each tip part of these auxiliary anodes 21a and 21b is positioned in the central part, discharge of an auxiliary discharge cell can be smoothly started, thus discharge is stably maintainable. In addition, in spite of such constitution that the auxiliary cathode and the auxiliary anode coexist on a common glass plate, favorable discharge action is securable.
