Abstract:
Abstract:
There is described a modular universal mechanism, system and method able to provide physical assistance at user upper- and lower-body joint as needed to the wearer by means being able to be configured to meet the individual needs. The design provides assistive non-medical exoskeletons to be realised and operated via a new type of controller; this control strategy is referred to as the "Harmonised controller" which is capable of providing the physical assistance in a comfortable and natural way, where the physical assistance is automatically adjusted to supplement the power provided by the user so that required activity can be performed without causing fatigue in the user. The exoskeleton, provides physical assistance to supplement the muscle effort of elderly persons and can also reduce/increase the muscle effort for a normal fully active person. The mechanism and controller are scalable and reusable.
Abstract:
Compression systems and methods for tightening a garment and/or applying a pressure through the garment may include a garment, a lacing system, and a tightening apparatus. The compression system may be used for tightening the garment about a portion of a body and/or applying pressure to a portion of the body by pressure applying regions of the garment. The lacing system may include lacing guide and at least one lace guided by the lacing guide members. The tightening apparatus may be coupled to the at least one lace and may be configured to apply tension on the at least one lace to tighten the garment about the portion of the body.
Abstract:
There is provided a backrest for a walker apparatus. The backrest includes an upper bridging member and a lower bridging member. The backrest includes a plurality of horizontally spaced-apart vertical strips coupled to and extending between the bridging members. The backrest also includes a plurality of vertically spaced-apart, staggered horizontal strips coupled to and extending between adjacent vertical strips.
Abstract:
Apparatus and associated methods relate to a knee-position control system having a knee engagement pad, a lower-leg control member and an upper-leg control member, the knee engagement pad configured to naturally position a user's knee in response to movement of a foot-rest of a natural-gait therapy system. In an illustrative embodiment, the upper-leg control member may pivot about a point substantially axially coincident with a user's hip. In some embodiments, the upper-leg control member may be pivotally coupled to the lower-leg control member at a pivot point substantially axially coincident with a user's knee. The lower-leg control member may be pivotably coupled to the foot rest at a pivot point substantially axially coincident with a user's ankle. The knee-position control system may advantageously position a user's knee in a natural position relative to both the user's ankle and the user's hip, in response to movement of the user's foot.
Abstract:
A knee joint flexibility rehabilitation apparatus may comprising a tubular strut having a first support foot and a bracket attached thereto, the tubular strut forming a first aperture; a height-adjustment bar translatably and rotatably disposed in the tubular strut, the height-adjustment bar forming a plurality of second apertures extending through the cross-section of the height-adjustment bar; a support bar fixed substantially perpendicularly to the height-adjustment bar, the padded support bar being configured to receive a knee joint posterior; a support strut pivotably connected to the bracket, the support strut having a second support foot attached thereto, the support strut pivotable away from parallel the tubular strut to form an acute angle thereto; and a pin removably disposed in one of the plurality of second apertures to fix the height-adjustment bar against translation in one direction.
Abstract:
A mobility or walking aid (WA) comprising an exoskeleton, a control system for controlling movement of the exoskeleton, and a power source for providing power to the exoskeleton and the associated control system. The WA system may be configured as a fully supportive system to assist a paraplegic user for example, or as a partially or fully supportive system to assist in the rehabilitation of a user with limited mobility. When a mobility impaired user is secured to the WA, the user is caused to move their joints and muscles through motions of walking, thereby assisting in the prevention of deterioration of a user's physiology. The WA is provided with various user customisable features and safety mechanisms including leg length adjustments, foot member adjustments, user size calibration and mechanical safety stop configuration.
Abstract:
A motion assistance apparatus comprising: a first object configured to attach to a first portion of a user; a second object configured to attach to a second portion of the user; a frame assembly including, a first longitudinal member configured to connect the first object and the second object, a second longitudinal member spaced apart from the first longitudinal member; and a plurality of distance maintaining members connecting the first longitudinal member and the second longitudinal member, the plurality of distance maintaining members configured to maintain a distance between the first longitudinal member and the second longitudinal member.
