Abstract:
A device placement or diebonding head (2) including a rod-and-piston combination including gas pressure applying inlet above (21) or below (17) the piston (4) and gas pressure opposing source, e.g., an independent gas pressure source or springs (20, 20a), to control vertical movement of the vacuum tool (6). Force exerted by the vacuum tool (6) on the device (8) being diebonded to substrate (9) is adjustable by adjusting the gas pressure on the piston (4) relative to the force of the pressure resisting source, e.g., springs (20, 20a). As the device (8) is bonded, a pressure sensure (29) may control a system to relieve the pressure exerted by the piston (4) on the device due to thermal expansion.
Abstract:
System for distributing video programs includes a transmission system (13) having a plurality of channels, includes a stored database (20) representing a predetermined schedule including timing instructions. Video server (11) containing a computer is programmed to provide real time outputs in response to the database time instructions. A bus has an input coupled to the computer and provides control signals in response to the real time outputs. A recorded medium contains a program in television format. A plurality of video players are used for playing the recorded media, each video player having a control port coupled to the bus and responsive to the control signals. Each video player has an output providing television signals for coupling to a separate corresponding channel, and at least two of the video players loaded with duplicate recorded media and controlled to play at staggered overlapping time intervals. A character generator is coupled to the computer for providing to a channel a menu in television format representing a programming schedule. Scrambling means (23) are interposed betweeen the output of a video player and the corresponding channel for scrambling the television signal. Access means (14) provides downstream access to a channel and unscrambles a television signal on an accessed channel. The access means provides access to the first and second channels thereby allowing return to the same point of a program after a pause equal to the staggered time interval.
Abstract:
In a cellular system configuration, the location of a mobile station is determined from the acquisition of cellular network data pertaining to the mobile station, and the translation of such network data into a corresponding geographical position profile. The cellular system includes a mobile station locator (32) entity for receiving from a mobile switching center (33) the network data such as cell and/or sector ID and trunk group member number. The mobile station locator (32) translates the network data into position information such as geographic coordinates (latitude and longitude), resolution (radius), and angle values for sectorized cells.
Abstract:
A heterostructure device includes a ridge-waveguide laser (11) monolithically integrated with a ridge-waveguide rear facet monitor [RFM] (12). An integral V-groove etched directly into the device substrate (10) enables passive alignment of an optical fiber (13) to the active region (11-1) of the laser (11). The laser and RFM facets were formed using an in-situ multistep reactive ion etch process.
Abstract:
s7 An electronic video record and playback assembly (11) operates in a recording mode to store input material in a solid state memory unit (12), and operates in a playback mode to reproduce the prerecorded material in response to user playback requests. The assembly (11) in- dudes direct memory access (DMA) devices which serve as the interface (14) to the memory unit (12), and a signal compressor (17) for reducing the input material for digital storage. The assembly (11) is capable of accommodating multiple playback requests via the DMA devices such that plural reproduction of shared material may be viewed simultaneously.
Abstract:
Abstract:
This invention disclosure describes the application of a polarization insensitive acoustically-tuned optical filter (250) used in a multichannel WDM system to equalize variations in the power level of the WDM channels. The invention also describes a simple means for providing a low frequency control system which enables the equalizer to determine the signal levels of N optical carriers prior to equalizing the signals.
