Abstract:
A liposome direct immunoassay of an antibody, antigen, or hapten in a sample comprises addition of the sample to polymer-enmeshed liposomes having a marker occluded within their inner volume, and incubation of the suspension with complement or a cytolytic agent to cause liposome lysis with subsequent release of the marker, that is measured after sedimentation of the suspension under normal gravity. The polymer is preferably cross-linked polyacrylamide. The assay is very rapid and sensitive. The polymer network enmeshing the liposomes enhance their shelf-life and acts as a selective barrier for diffusion of molecules of different molecular weight to the liposome surface.

A chimeric gene construct comprising a DNA sequence encoding an enzyme having aspartate kinase (AK) activity is provided, which is capable of expression in plant cells with subsequent increased production Of threonine. Transgenic plants containing in their cells said chimeric gene overproduce threonine and transgenic plants containing in their cells said chimeric gene and a second chimeric gene comprising a DNA sequence coding for an enzyme having dihydrodipicolinate synthase (DHPS) activity, overproduce both threonine and lysine. The transgenic plants are resistant to lysine and threonine, to derivative: thereof and to selective inhibitors Of the plant enzymes DHFS or AK, and thus these compounds may be used as selective herbicides in locus where the transgenic plants are cultivated.

Crosslinked plasticized or unplasticized PVC products having gradient crosslinking density, with a high crosslinking density on the outer surface and a low or none crosslinking density at the bulk of the product, are prepared by immersing the PVC product in a hot water solution of a crosslinking material and a phase transfer catalyst. The products obtained provide controlled release of substances occluded within the PVC matrix, thus preventing leakage of plasticizers, stabilizers and other additives, and permitting controlled slow release of substances like pesticides, fertilizers, drugs and the like, into the surrounding environment.

There are provided compositions for the inhibition of T-Cell-mediated immune reactions, which comprise an effective quantity of Fragmin (T.M.) of polyanethol sulfonate, of dextran sulfate or of another compound which binds to the heparin receptor. The compositions of the invention are effective as active ingredient of pharmaceutical compositions for the treatment of patients afflicted with metastatic tumor cells. Another feature of the invention is an assay for the determination of inhibitory effects of such compositions on T-cell immunity in vivo by their ability to compete with heparin for binding in the heparin receptor.

They are useful as pharmaceutically active substances for protecting against the deleterious effects of IFN-gamma, e.g. in autoimmune diseases.

Pharmaceutical compositions comprising them are useful for inducing regeneration of injured nerves of the central nervous system in mammals.
