    Abstract: A refrigerator and a safety control method thereof are provided to secure safety for a user by blocking a high voltage applied to a shelf within the refrigerator when a door switch is malfunctioning or the user makes contact to the shelf, and by applying the high voltage only when a sensed indoor temperature is lower than a predetermined temperature. A safety control method for a refrigerator having a storage compartment for storing foods, comprises the steps of: sensing an indoor temperature within the storage compartment; comparing the sensed indoor temperature with a predetermined temperature and generating high voltage, if the indoor temperature is lower than the predetermined temperature; supplying the generated high voltage into the storage compartment for storing the foods; discriminating if a high voltage blocking condition is generated during the supply of high voltage to the storage compartment; and blocking the high voltage supplied to the storage compartment, if the high voltage blocking condition is generated.
