PURPOSE: An optical repeater and optical signal amplification method are provided to reduce influence on noise generated from amplification operation for specific optical signals by controlling the amplification operation. CONSTITUTION: An UL(UpLink) optical amplification apparatus(144) amplifies an input UL optical signal from an input optical signal. When an UL stream is detected from the input UL optical signal, a control unit(147) amplifies the input UL optical signal by controlling the UL optical amplifier. When the UL stream is not detected from the input UL optical signal, a control circuit stops the amplification operation for the input UL optical signal by controlling the UL optical amplifier.

PURPOSE: A resource allocation method for supporting dynamic QoS based on a next generation network in a passive optical network is provided to allocate the QoS resources requested by a subscriber terminal to a passive optical network through the linkage with a dynamic next generation network integrated session control network system. CONSTITUTION: An OLT(Optical Line Terminal)(100) is connected to a GPON(Gigabit Passive Optical Network), and a subscriber terminal(120) transfers a DHCP(Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol) request message to the OLT to set up an IP address. The OLT transfers the DHCP request message to a DHCP server(300). The DHCP server processes the DHCP request, and stores the MAC(Medium Access Control) address and an IP address of the subscriber terminal.

CONSTITUTION: A processor(430) receives a IGMP(Internet Group Management Protocol) message from a switching unit(410). The processor grasps a traffic reception request from a subscriber terminal(320~320''). The processor records a filtering register. An ONU(Optical Network Unit) MAC(Medium Access Control) management unit(450) filters a packet transmitted to the subscriber terminal through a value of a filtering register and a port identifier for traffic transceiving with the subscriber terminal. The value of the filtering register expresses the existence of traffic which will be forwarded to the subscriber terminal.

PURPOSE: An ONU(Optical Network Unit) and a method of operating the ONU are provided to control an upstream optical signal strength based on a loss signal of downstream data and transmit upstream data generated based on the controlled upstream optical signal strength, so that an OLT(Optical Line Termination) may receive the upstream data at a constant optical signal strength. CONSTITUTION: A received data processor(201) includes an electrical signal converter(203), a power amplifier(205), and a limiting amplifier(207). The electrical signal converter converts, to a current signal, an optical signal of downstream data received from an OLT via an optical splitter. The power amplifier pre-amplifies, to a voltage signal, the current signal output from the electrical signal converter. The limiting amplifier outputs received data by converting, to a digital voltage signal, the voltage signal output from the power amplifier. A transmission data processor(209) includes a measurement unit(211), a determination unit, an E/O(Electric-to-Optic) conversion controller(215), and an E/O converter(217). The measurement unit measures a downstream optical signal strength of downstream data received from the OLT. The determination unit determines an upstream optical signal strength based on the measured downstream optical signal strength. Specifically, the determination unit compares the measured downstream optical signal strength with a predetermined downstream reference strength to calculate a loss signal of the downstream data, and to determine the upstream optical signal strength based on a predetermined upstream reference strength and the loss signal.

PURPOSE: An ONT authentication method for preventing upward traffic transmission in passive optical network link transmitting upward traffic is provided to prevent abnormal network status by allocating ONU_ID in the ONT. CONSTITUTION: An ONT(Optical Network Terminal)(200) transmits a response PLOAM(Physical Layer Operations, Administration and Maintenance) message to an OLT according to a request of a serial number. The OLT extracts the serial number from a response PLOAM message. The OLT generates the ONU ID. The OLT transmits the ONU ID allocation PLOAM message with ONT. The ONT compares the information and the pre-stored information of the ONU ID allocation PLOAM message. If information is matched, ONT receives the allocation of the ONU ID.

A method for saving power of an ONT(Optical Network terminal) and an OLT(Optical Line Terminal) in an optical access network is provided to decrease the management cost of a network operator as well as save the power of a subscriber by operating an ONT(Optical Network terminal) and an OLT(Optical Line Terminal) in a software manner without using an additional physical device or machine. An ONT is switched to a power saving mode, and cuts off the power for all functions except a controller which monitors and controls external input(S304). It is judged whether or not a request condition for the switch into an active mode is satisfied at the power saving mode(S305). The ONT transmits a wake-up signal to an OLT(S306), and is switched to an active state. The ONT performs a normal operation.
