    Abstract: In a pure ethylene oxide distillation process, an aqueous mixture containing ethylene oxide, formaldehyde and at least 5 % by weight water is supplied via an inlet to a distillation device with at least one distillation column at a height above the column bottom of at least 8 theoretical stages. The ethylene oxide is removed at the head of the column and a mixture is obtained at the bottom of the column with less than 5 % by weight ethylene oxide.

    Abstract: The invention relates to a method for obtaining highly pure monoethylene glycol from the product of hydrolysis of ethylene oxide by distillation, by means of dehydration under pressure, preferably in a cascade, vacuum dehydration and subsequent pure distillation. During the vacuum dehydration, an aqueous stream containing monoethylene glycol in a concentration of less than 1 wt. %, preferably less than 0.1 wt. %, medium boilers and light boilers is drawn off and then sluiced out, optionally after reprocessing.
