Abstract: Preparation of polyetherols based on solid starting substances and liquid hydroxyl containing costarters by catalytic addition of alkylene oxides. The starter combination contains ethoxy structure bearing diols, where the ratio of the average number of OH groups per mole in the starter combination to the number of ethoxy structures in the polyetherol is 1-0.2 to 1.8, and the weight proportion of ethoxy structure bearing diols to the average molecular weight of the polyetherols is 1-2 to 1-15. An Independent claim is also included for the polyetherols obtained as above, having an OH number of 300-650 mg KOH/g.

Abstract: The novel feature in the production of polyetherpolyalcohols of molecular weight 200-600 by solid phase adducting of an alkylene oxide with an OH group-containing compound (I) at 120 deg C/1013 mbar is that there is now used a mixture of water content below 1 wt.% comprising (I) and a further OH group-containing material (II) which is liquid at 120 deg C/1013 mbar. The mixture is also claimed per se and comprises 50-95 mol.% (I), which is solid at 120 deg C/1013 mbar, and 5-50 mol.% (I), which is liquid at 120 deg C/1013 mbar.

Abstract: The treatment of polyether-polyols (I) which are obtained by conventional base-catalysed reaction of H- functional starters with alkylene oxides and then freed from catalyst and optionally any salt produced. Treatment comprises a combination of (a) thermal reaction at a pH of less than 7 and a temperature above 60 degrees C and (b) thermal distillation in a counter-current column using a purifying agent (II). Preferably step (a) is carried out at a pH of less than 6, preferably by adding acid and/or acidic substances, or by performing this step in presence of acid-reacting sorbents. The temperature rises to above 90 degrees C in step (a). Step (b) is carried out in a column with a counter-current of (II) at a gas velocity of 0.1-2 m/sec. and a liquid loading of 1-10 m /m /hr.

Abstract: A process for treating polyether polyols prepared in a conventional manner by base-catalyzed reaction of H-functional initiator substances with alkylene oxides comprises a combination of a thermal-reactive step at a pH of less than 7 and a temperature above 60.degree.C and a thermal-distillative step in a countercurrent column using a purifying agent. The polyether polyols prepared according to the invention are used for producing low-fogging and low-odor PUR foams.
