    Abstract: The invention relates to a method for the production of fiberplates, whereby I. Cellulose-containing fibers are glued with an aqueous glue solution, whereby the aqueous glue solution contains the following: a) in case of a glue solution, (a) an aliphatic polyamine having at least 3 groups selected from the group consisting of primary and secondary amino groups, which have a mean molar weight ranging from 600 to 1000000 g/mol and, excepting the tertiary amino groups, are substantially free of other functional groups (polyamine P); or b) in case of a glue solution, (b) a mixture consisting of polyamine P and an aminoplast resin (b) consisting of b1) formaldehyde; b2) a compound (b2) selected from the group consisting of urea and melamine, whereby the proportion of the amino groups of compound (b2) in relation to the formaldehyde ranges from 0.4: 1 to 3: 1; b3) and optionally up to 0.2 mol per mol of formaldehyde of another compound (b3), which is capable of reacting with the formaldehyde in a polycondensation reaction; b4) and optionally up to 0.2 mol of amino groups of compounds (b2) of another compound (b4), which is capable of reacting with the amino groups in a polycondensation reaction; or c) in case of a glue solution, (c) an aminoplast resin (c) consisting of c1) formaldehyde; c2) a compound (c2) selected from the group consisting of urea and melamine, whereby the proportion of the amino groups of compound (c2) in relation to the formaldehyde ranges from 0.3: 1 to 3.0: 1; c3) a polyamine P, whereby the proportion of the sum of the primary, secondary and tertiary amino groups of polyamine P in relation to the sum of the primary amino groups of compound (c2) ranges from 0.0005: 1 to 2:1; c4) and optionally up to 0.2 mol per mol of formaldehyde of an another compound (c4), which is capable of reacting with formaldehyde in a polycondensation reaction; c5) and optionally up to 0.2 mol per mol of amino groups of compounds (c2) of another compound (c5), which is capable of reacting with the amino groups in a polycondensation reaction. The humidity of the cellulose-containing fibers or the water content of the glue is adjusted in such a way that the humidity of the glued cellulose-containing fibers does not exceed 150 %; and II. Compacting the glued cellulose-containing fibers produced according to step (I) at a high temperature to form the fiberplates.

    Production of alkali-condensed phenol-urea-formaldehyde resin used e.g. for lignocellulosic material

    Abstract: A process for the production of an alkali-condensed phenol-urea-formaldehyde (PUF) resin with a mol ratio of P:F:U = 1:(1.5-3.5):(0.3-2.5), comprising: (a) preparation of a PF condensate by alkaline condensation of P and F up to a viscosity of 100-5000 mPa.s; (b) production of a PF resin by further condensation to a viscosity of more than 5000 mPa.s; and (c) reaction of the PF resin with urea. The novelty is that stage (b) is carried out in an extruder. Also claimed is a PUF resin obtained by this process. Preferably stage (b) is carried out in an extruder at 90-150 deg C, preferably in a continuous single- or twin-screw mixer, a twin-screw continuous kneader or a continuous multi-screw kneader. Stages (a)-(c) may be carried out continuously. The PF resin is produced in stages (a) and (b) by starting with 60-90% of the total amount of formaldehyde required, and then reacted in stage (c) with the remaining 10-40% F and the urea, possibly in the form of a UF precondensate. The PF resin obtained in stage (b) has a viscosity of more than 5000 to 100,000 mPa.s. The final PUF resin has a solid content of 40-70 wt% and a mol ratio of (phenol):(alkali hydroxide) = 1:(0.4-1.2), which may be reduced to 1:(0.9-1.5) before processing by adding more alkali hydroxide.

    Abstract: 1480921 Stabilizing aqueous formaldehyde BASF AG 25 Nov 1974 [26 Nov 1973] 50896/74 Heading C2C Aqueous formaldehyde solutions are stabilized by means of a bis-guanamine of formula wherein the two substituent on the phenylene ring are in m or p-position to each other. 0À001 to 0À5% by weight of stabilizer may be used and the formaldehyde solution may contain 28-65% by weight of formaldehyde. The stabilizer may be added as a stock solution in a formaldehyde solution of higher strength than that to be stabilized and having a pH of 2À5 to 5À8 and the latter is preferably kept at 40-80‹ C. for 10-30 hours before adding the stock solution.
