Abstract:
The present invention relates to the use of water-soluble copolymers consisting of such characteristic structural elements as a) acrylic acid amide of the general formula (I), where R et R stand, independently of each other, for H, alkyl, cycloalkyl, aryl or aralkyl, and b) units of the general formula (II), where A represents a chemical bond or an alkyl group, the R residues stand, independently of each other, for H, alkyl, cycloalkyl, aryl or arakyl or, together with the nitrogen atom to which they are linked, an aromatic or non aromatic five to seven member heterocyclic ring, possibly mono- or polysubstituted, possibly containing one or two more heteroatoms chosen from among O, N or S, and capable of being annelated with another aromatic or non aromatic five to seven member ring, and R represents H, alkyl or aralkyl. The invention also pertains to cosmetics containing said polymers. 00000
Abstract:
Proposed is the use, as agents for increasing the dry strength of paper, card and cardboard, of partially hydrolysed polymers of N-vinyl carboxylic acid amides obtained by the homopolymerization of N-vinyl carboxylic acid amides of the formula (I) in which R and R are H or C1-C6 alkyl and by splitting off 0.5 to 95 mole % of the groups of the formula (II) in which R is H or C1-C6 alkyl.
Abstract:
Starch is cationically modified by reacting starch with polymers which contain amino and/or ammonium groups in an aqueous medium at from 115 to 180.degree.C under superatmospheric pressure in the absence of oxidizing agents, polymerization initiators and alkali, by a process in which the reaction is carried out in a manner such that a reduction in molecular weight occurs in not more than 10% by weight of the starch, and the reaction products thus obtainable are used as dry strength agents for paper.

Abstract:
Starch is modified with at least one cationic polymer P) and the modified starch is prepared by a process in whicha) an anionically modified starch A) is reacted with a cationic polymer P) orb) a natural starch B) or a starch C) which has not been anionically modified is reacted with the cationic polymer P) in the presence of an anionic modifier M)and the polymer-modified starch is used.
Abstract:
A cosmetic composition comprising water-soluble copolymer, which as characteristic structural elements comprisesa) vinylcarboxamide units of the general formula IwhereR1 and R2 independently of one another are H, alkyl, cycloalkyl, aryl or aralkyl, andb) units of the general formula IIwhereA is a chemical bond or an alkylene group, the radicals R3 independently of one another are H, alkyl, cycloalkyl, aryl or aralkyl, or together with the nitrogen atom to which they are bonded, form an unsubstituted, mono- or polysubstituted, five- to seven-membered, heterocyclic, aromatic or nonaromatic ring, which if appropriate contains one or two further heteroatoms, selected from among O, N and S, it being possible for the heterocyclic ring to be fused to a further five- or six-membered, aromatic or nonaromatic ring,R4 is H, alkyl or aralkyl.
